Now that doesn't mean they'll be retired before the year is out but I have noticed that on buses in the boneyard and a select few on buses out of 77th and 103rd for the past few months. Something to keep an eye on as the year progresses. which bus numbers you saw them on

YoungBusLover
#1707 and #1799 have been added to the LTH/300 list. #1799 sits in the boneyard behind #1017 while #1707 sits along the SS fence along 79th.
YoungBusLover
Now I'm usually not the one to connect dots here but something mighty strange has been going on over the past month and a half at 77th. I was recently talking to some shop guys about the looming retirements and a few buses have already been taken off the roster for the incoming #8350s. That then prompted me to ask about for latest roster for 77th which then led me to these 16 buses 5 off which have already been taken off the roster for undisclosed reasons. #1301 & #1338 have sat in the boneyard since early June, while #1274,#1279 & #1320 have sat dormant along the SS fence for about a month as well, #1330 has been in and out of SS. #1195,#1230,#1430,#1440, and #1251 have sat dormant in the bays since early July and I'm not sure if they failed inspections or what but they haven't been moved since being parked in that particular bay area. 103rd is still on my radar as well since they still have 32 #1000s OOS since mid to late June. Where did those buses go and are they still at 103rd because I haven't seen to many at SS and I doubt they're at other garages. 1.) #1195 9/10/06 7/10/23, 5:56 PM 2 2 -755 7 #84052.) #1230 11/17/06 7/10/23, 7:01 PM X4 X4 -764 7 #8452 3.) #1251 11/14/06 7/20/23, 6:20 PM 4 4 -701 7 #84564.) #1274 11/15/06 7/7/23, 3:36 PM 4 4 -707 7 #84575.) #1279 11/29/06 6/23/23, 7:11 PM 3 3 -710 7 #8458 6.) #1283 11/10/06 5/29/23, 1:42 AM 87 87 -704 7 #8507 7.) #1289 11/29/06 7/5/23, 2:30 PM 53A 53A-708 7 #8526 8.) #1291 11/15/06 7/20/23, 5:30 PM 79 79 -751 7 #85299.) #1301 1/15/07 5/25/23, 9:06 AM 8 8 -710 7 #854310.) #1320 1/29/07 6/29/23, 10:15 AM X4 X4 -705 7 #854411.) #1330 2/1/07 7/11/23, 7:36 PM 79 79 -761 7 #855012.) #1338 1/24/07 5/19/23, 7:31 PM 24 24 -752 7 #855113.) #1342 1/8/07 7/7/23, 6:16 PM 53A 53A-755 7 #8560 14.) #1359 2/16/07 7/28/23, 6:45 PM 1 1 -757 7 #856315.) #1430 8/31/07 7/10/23, 4:21 PM 79 79 -762 7 #856516.) #1440 9/16/07 7/10/23, 5:16 PM 2 2 -756
Mr.NewFlyer1279
i’m looking for some background info/clarification on this: is there 3 #1000’s?? or only 2? the prototype 1000 was renumbered to #1005 the original #1000 is at 89th/Greenwood and the 3rd one is a 2007 model currently at Kedzie garage. andrethebusman99
As far as I know there were only two. The pilot 1000 is at Greenwood, the current 1000 (built between 1429 and 1430) was the only other one. Never heard of 1005 being originally 1000. Would not make sense as serial for 1005 is the fifth in that group.

Only thing distinctive about 1005 is that it was the prototype (first) to be rehabbed.
YoungBusLover
There is three #1000s technically speaking. The vin numbers for the mechanical trainer at 89th/Greenwood may not be available online but #1000 and #1005 are technically #1000. #1005 being the prototype and #1000 being the standard bus like the rest of the fleet. My assumption was that the mechanical trainer was always the prototype from the start since it still had the original decals, bike rack, magnetic strip alongside the farebox installed in it among other components. So I considered it to be #1000 - A, where as #1005 was #1000 - B.

The pilot 1000 has chassis number 28549, the current 1000 has chassis number 31602 (which is between 1429 (30731) and 1430 (31793)) and is a 2006 model. 1005 has a chassis number (29085) which is in the sequence with 1001-1020 (29081-29100). So 2007 models such as #1350 onwards aren't really 2007 models? The date of manufacture would place a host of buses in that category for 2007 models even though there counterparts were completed in late 2006. In regards to #1005 I think confusion arose after the initial gut rehabs started as it was the first bus to receive it as a pilot for the future of rehabs. I'll have to verify the vin number along with date of manufacture on that bus but I'm pretty sure you are correct in your assessment of it. @busfan2847 and @andrethebusman99

Supposedly there are two, the original one displayed at navy pier in 2005 should be the one at 89th facility it has its numbers removed. The second #1000 is not the prototype as it has standard features the rest of them such and the plastic seats and bike racks. #1005 was the first bus to be rehabbed which was a pilot for the rehabs on the rest of the #1000’s. I believe the original one is the prototype that was at navy pier during a press conference in 2005 as it still retains the original bike racks and Chicago card plus decals above the front door. I’m pretty sure it still has the original lighting as it was never used as much as the rest of the fleet. If you ever go on CPTDB website. On the current #1000, It’ll say “Replaced the original #1000 that was returned to New Flyer”.
Mr.NewFlyer1279
the one at Kedzie currently has the seats like 1301-2029 have so i can only think there’s 2 wit the proto being at 89th i remember there was a website of all of CTA’s buses vin numbers idk what happen to it

andrethebusman99
Not correct. Pilot bus was indeed kept by CTA. Always intended to become a "training aid", just like Flxible 5300 (1st).

andrethebusman99
"Model year" is not the same as "build year". Model years change during September, just like on cars. Buses built September thru December have VIN code for following year. Some transit systems go by model year in their inventories, others by delivery year.

If it is the cptdb link, it uses "build date" and isn't necessarily authoritative (at one time, it had Pace 30' buses as 20506s up, while it was obvious they weren't CNGs). I think @busfan2847 may have the proof that there is only one 1005, unless someone can come up with a VIN plate to the contrary.
