20455 sounded really weird when I rode it about a month ago, sounds like these XD40’s are starting to give age

also this bus shut off randomly during the layover while it did a layover for 5 mins (and no the driver didn’t shut it off and pace buses don’t shut off during layovers for that long normally)

here’s a start up clip https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/617224005493194764/1108207969264467999/IMG_2886.mov

and here’s a clip of it in action driving

If the bus driver doesn't engage the fast idle while laying over, the bus will automatically shut down after a few minutes of low idling.  They are designedtodothat to protect the engines..

Also. most municipalities don't let buses idle any longer. That was an issue in Evanston.

Oh I didn’t know that so that’s actually normal when it does that if it’s not fast idle

An unknown XD40 has caught on fire after a Tesla has rammed into it, that  might as well be the first XD40 that is retired because that fire is major.

Unit that caught on fire is #20459, which to my surprise is the one XD40 i rode on the 307 yesterday. Here’s a photo of it from yesterday morning

(my picture) post terrible (possible fatal) fire of 20459

This is terrible.   I'm guessing this is a total loss.   The question is what kind of fire was it?.  My initial guess would be an engine compartment fire.  While I think suppression systems are in place, this is only good whie the engine compartment or wherever the fire is continues to be contained with no exposure to air.  Once the driver ir fire department opens that engine door, that fire is going to spread rapidly weakening the frame.   This bus is barely 3 years old.

Judging from the fact CFD responded to this and the overpass, thinking this happened out by O'Hare?

I had figured that it was probably on the 330.    My initial reaction was engine fire but being so close to the Intermodal facility  it's looking more like a brake fire.

That was on the 330 that day cause I knew only 330 would run by that area I also thought of 332 but didn’t think 332 goes on that highway

Doing a quick check on the how the XD40’s are operating.

I saw 20418 yesterday, that bus has had a broken tracking device since 2022 and pace has not taken any attempt to fix the tracking device on this bus leading to constant confusion.

20422 has a broken destination display saying “TO GARAGE” even when in service, but is active.

20424 was not in service since august

20435 is still out of service, if anyone has information with 20435, let me know.

20437 has had a broken tracking device since June but seems to work better than the one on 20418.

20451 has been out of service since February, location is unknown.

20458 has been out of service since August. (Back)

20465 has been out of service since July.

20472 has a broken tracking device last seen on the tracker on 8/9.

20475 was not active since August 16.

20418, 20437, 20476, and 20478 do not have working bus trackers. The four buses rarely show up on web watch. I have missed each of those buses at least twice this year due to the consistently downed tracker device.

After gathering information on why these buses don’t track, I’ve been looking at the login screens for each of those buses, primarily 20418. I’ve rode 20418 about five times in December and it gave a different error each time as to why it won’t show up on the map. The first time I rode it on the 331, the driver’s login display says the login code was invalid therefore not letting the driver log in to the bus completely which explains why it didn’t show up on the map. The second time I rode it, which was on the 317, I rode it around 9:30 pm and the driver’s display thought 20418 was on the 322 and was supposed to leave the oak brook center at 5:24 pm, while I was in that bus on the 317 at 9:30pm. The next day, I rode it on the 307, and it gave the operator another error which prevented him from logging in. What I learned from this is one, west divison will probably never fix their equipment that doesn’t show up on the map and all they care about is that there’s buses running on their schedules and that’s all. I’ve reported 20418, 20437, 20476, and 20478 several times since September. I stopped doing that because either pace doesn’t read their feedback or they’re not sending the feedback to the right people which is why these buses consistently don’t show up on the map (or in rare cases they do when the login works). I haven’t yet called the garage but I’ll do that either this week or next week to see why the four buses never show up on the map and I’ll get a direct answer as to if they’ll be fixed or not, but it frustrates me when I have to play the game “Is the bus really there or do I have to wait god knows how long until the next bus is supposed to arrive?”

6374 is having similar issues too and I’ve also reported that bus a few times as well using the website, which like i said I’m going to now call the garage rather than send feedback.

Also here’s another bus with another issue that it’s been having since at least August of last year.

The destination signs on 20422 have been stuck at “TO GARAGE” even when it’s in service. When the operator uses the system to change the destination signs, it does not work and the signs will remain “TO GARAGE” until west division gets to fixing it, if they ever do. Also, notice the run 323, that’s also frozen and is always displayed with the to garage signs on this bus. Already 6 months lol and west division doesn’t care 🤣. Thankfully this bus is always on the map 100% of the time so if you find this bus on the map you’ll know what route it’s on because it’s trapeze login works on this bus.

As they always say REBOOT!. Sounds like the Luminator controller needs it.
