Pace New Flyer buses

Yo my surprise, I saw a Pace New Flyer EB on 95th in Oak Lawn arout 330p this afternoon    i will admit it possibly could've been a 20500 series Eldorado, but I think it was a New Flyer.   Does Oace Erst handle ALL UPS runs, or all UPS runs except 395?  It seemed yo be sn odd time to see that bus EB on 95th regardless of which type. Especially since it came about 5 minutes after an EB 381

395 is shared between South and Southwest, so you probably saw a 20500.

I saw 20479 today and it did have plates but I didn't see the plate #.

That's a great question.  With all of the eoute cuts, Pace doesn't need 164 EZ Riders.  I wonder if Pace contemplated or changed the order to get some Axxess CNGs for the Wheeling facility?

Well maybe they will soon have a need. With the vaccine rolling out maybe things can get back to normal this summer. I heard something about a new strain in London. So the future is still uncertain.

FV buses 2605-2629 are definitely showing their age, I've seen a lot of 2700, 01, 04-06 lately.   2676 has also been out a lot, it was sidelined for months and just recently came back to service.  I'm sure Joliet and Elgin buses probably are tired too.  But with so many buses on the sidelines because of COVID from Naperville, Westmont, and the north suburbs, I'm shocked they are not replacing them right now until newer buses come, whenever that ends up being.

I think they will replace those buses once rhe Pace service cuts become official   i don't know the status of the new order of EZ Riders.

What I do know is Pace agreement with Wheeling was that when that new garage opens, it has to be 100 percent CNG. In other words, no diesel tanks.  Perhaps Pace will have to temporarily continue to fuel in Des Plaines or send a fuel truck nightly to Wheeling,  but at the end of the day, they need more CNG buses.  That's why I wondered if Pace has or has considered changing that order from 164 EZ Riders to 100 Axxess CNGs.  The 27xx EZ RZIDERS should last another 2 years.  I think the new Wheeling facility is slated to open summer of 2021.

I don't think they would run a fuel truck, cause that's the whole idea of the garage to be CNG. If word got out to the press that was going on they would probably end up explaining their situation to the feds. They received fed money to do something and they are doing something else with it. They have no choice but to run both garages. Are CNG Pulse buses coming this summer? They could always take half of souths cngs, they do have a fuel tank for diesel but the precedent is the same. Probably best to wait until the buses show up to open the garage. The way corona has gone they might only have three quarters of a garage left. Transit funding is unstable right now.

Maybe the best option is for S and NW to swap fleets.   I think S still has their diesel tanks there.  Future CNGs. If any, can always go to S.  Also, NW and NS can swap some routes with 290, 226, 215, 250, and 270 and Oulse going to Evanston with 213, 234, 626 going to Wheeling.   With routes like 241 disappearing. Wheeling may only need 200 buses for the immediate future.

Question is does NS have the capacity for that? That's a small garage. They do have Pulse buses at south that are CNG. The problem with Pulse that comes to my mind is that once NW is CNG, the #6510's are diesel, so they are obsolete, so they will have a problem. They can't really run diesel Pulse buses on the Halsted corridor cause that's CNG. And 95th isn't coming for years. I think the only solution is to do as you say but maybe run Dempster Pulse out of NS with diesel #6510's. The newer Pulse CNG's could run the Milwaukee Pulse, but there's not enough of them. They need like 5 more Pulse CNG's.

Pace doesn't really do what CTA does. They don't give new buses to garages and then take them away. There's not an instance of that yet other than a couple buses but that's understandable.

6510-21 can move to sw when nw becomes full cng and operate them along route 381 until pulse service begins.

I think the Halsted Pulse is closer to fruition, though i still don't know the exact timetable.  I also can't seem to find in the 2021 budget any allocations for new buses, be it CNG or diesel.  I do know if Pace deferred or changed (or canceled) the 2020 order for new EZ Riders.

It's been one year ago today the first eight XD40's entered service, it's been a long year and time went by so fast it's March 2021. These XD40's are good and I'm glad I didn't see one broken down before, but 20407 was mentioned broken down last May. Wonder if anyone else saw these broken down, but I saw 20464 stuck for like 15 minutes on Harlem last october. Honestly, these Xd40's are good  and I enjoy riding them on the 318 listening the bus get to 5th gear, which rarely happens on 307. I need to go on 318 I didn't go on that route since early January. The XD40's are not my favorite but they're acceptable for my case. I'm already missing the NABI's and I love those takeoff's of the XD40's lol.

Man, one day I was taking the 307 from BTC to the Green Line and the bus driver said as soon as we got on he wasn't making any stops until after Cermak (I guess he must've been really behind) and he meant it. We skipped a lot of people, except for this elderly couple at 63rd, but we were flying on that Xcelsior down Harlem, we only stopped for red lights. Personally, these are the best buses Pace has (but I'm not partial to the Eldos, so there's that)

Lol that driver probably wanted to fly down just skipping the passengers except the elderly one. Hopefully he didn’t get in trouble for that and I don’t get XD40’s that fast on 307 but my fastest ride was 20426 on 313 and we were just flying down St. Charles with this lady operator  who just got on after a shift change from Mannheim road to Kingery highway westbound. It was so fast we got to the Yorktown mall in like 40 minutes.

#20426 is currently stalled out at lagrange/Joliet nb on the #330. It has the triangles out. Had to navigate around it with my bus.

Wow I rode that twice in December, it sounded very healthy back then. poor 20426 hopefully it'll be back very soon and it won't be a major repair
