NewFlyerMCI
Does anyone have that slow zone map for CTA? I had to go out to Oakbrook Center today (I don’t mind going to the suburbs, but I won’t be doing that again lol, that bus ride is way too long) and the Blue Line probably didn’t go above 25mph from UIC to Forest Park, there and back. Last summer when I had to go to Austin, it ran fine, have the tracks been deteriorating that bad? It took 45 mins to get from Jackson to Forest Park and vice versa. I want to see if the entire congress branch is a slow zone

I can tell you from experience whatever they do will only last a week to a month (before the Dan Ryan rebuild they put some plastic ties and some fresh ballast in place in some spots, they ran fine for a few weeks then back to creeping.) The road bed itself is unstable and constantly moving so the tracks are constantly falling out of gauge especially with such frequent service

I usually manage to catch all the lines at least 1-2 a week, with the Red & Green being my regulars, but it can be months in btwn my rides on the Yellow or Blue. I didn’t realize it had gotten that bad. No wonder the people on Reddit say they ride a different transit system (although I’m willing to bet the vast majority of those riders are on the O’Hare branch). I think with the Ryan and congress being a relatively new concept for rapid transit they came in with the wrong material. At one time the medians used concrete ties but immediately went to the regular wood

The creeping was so bad today that my 301 was pulling out of Forest Park as the train was pulling in. For all of the improvements on the O'Hare branch, there's still a slow zone between just before Division and Damen, then the Kimball subway has one too. For over six months last year, they were single tracking every weeknight between Western and Pulaski for track and ballast replacement work. Does not seem to have done much to improve travel times. It would work for a month or two then the roadbed would sink out of gauge again. Makes me wish phase I of this replacement project did at least to Cicero. At least you dnt have to wait on CDOT or IDOT for that

If the power gets upgraded soon enough it may end up like the Ryan where some 7000s come in a few months leading up to the rebuild then phase 2 they move send deliveries to Pink then back to blue once enough of the line is built enough.
