Didn't realize that the yards determined testing, or that it even mattered. Wouldn't operator training come after CTA has started taking delivery of more trains?

I don’t know I just figured that’s what he meant over just one section of the line.

Hmm familarization training??? Why get familiar with something that wont be on the line or will it???

I wonder then will the order be starting to arrive soon. I thought more like May 2022 but maybe not.

Training protocols by management and instruction. It’s no different than doing that with other rail series. The same applies when operators, switch workers, and tower workers picking another line outside of their current section during the system pick. You have to qualify by doing line familiarization training and/or a rail series familiarization training i.e. 5000s in order to safely work on a specific line you’ve picked.

there is a 2 car set at kimball yard during the day for the “switchworker training” as @garmon757 mentioned above while the 8 car train does test runs on the brown line

The deuce is normally inside Kimball Shop. I know this because I just did training on them last week.

It makes sense to train brown line employees as they will most likely get 7000s but blue line operators is where im lost.

The possibility is there that the 7000s are going to blue. They have been there like 5 times already.

I find it hard to believe that they wont put cars on the red line. 130th is coming, rpm is coming. Usually cta puts things new on its newest lines. Theres just not enough cars to go around. If you do red/purple/yellow cause of howard yard. Thats 3/4 of 846. Figure in the expansion and thats more cars. Maybe because of that the 3 colors of howard yard may have to always have its own set of trains unless you buy tons of cars.

You know all this segregation of cars, which I hate, can easily be solved if you make the couplers of an 5000 and 7000 different so the cars physically cant couple. I supposed you couldnt push a train then. Maybe there exists an adapter somewhere that couples but does not mate as crazy a thought that is.

The Red Line extension is still 6 to 8 years later, thus the cars should've been delivered well before the opening of the extension

I can't remember if the CTA has up to 5 year's to exercise options beyond the 400, but it would seem that they would have to wait the maximum time to pull that off.

Well we know from garmon that 7000s we’re supposed to replace all 2600s on the brown and orange first since those two would be giving their 3200s to blue. Then blue might get them next if OHare gets power upgrades and phase 1 is done with the IMD turnback hopefully being able to handle more frequent turnbacks than UIC. Right now you have 7 rosemonts that go to UIC then comeback. There’s still more FP trains going through so maybe if phase one enables full time turnbacks then you can just make Rosemont all 7000s, then take a break and put the rest somewhere else till Forest Park gets fixed then convert the whole line to whatever newer series they decide to leave there.

Yeah but the 5000s were delivered over a period of 6 years so the time frame is correct. I doubtl thely will have a new train order in the next 10 years.
