I have been noticing the same thing these last few days. Yesterday I've spotted NOVA's on the 15 Jeffery Local around 5:30 am and later that evening saw 6613 on the 28 Stony Island around 6. Monday I've passed a NOVA on the X28 Stony Island Express but didn't get the number.

It is a possibility that 103rd is getting Novas.

Did anyone ever spot an NOVA on #14-Jeffery Exp?? That would be interesting to see. I remember few years ago when Archer Garage had only NOVA's, 103rd had borrowed them for Route 26-South Shore Express for morning rush. Looks like some of 103rd Drivers requested for Nova's. I wish that Kedzie would get some Novas as well.

Well, as of now there isn't a single Nova on any of 103rd's routes so maybe they're loaners or a weekday only thing. I just hope the management comes to their senses and sends some artics back to the south side garages and maybe even 77th.

can someone explain why the south side is continuously losing artics? It seems to me that the North Side has all it needs at this point while garages like 77th could REALLY use some on its routes seeing as they are constantly in the top 10 ridership category. Maybe you could shift some artics that are used for the 151's that go all the way to Devon since most of their heaviest loads are from Diversy.

I don't think 77th would be necessary for Artics since they've lost #6. Chicago Garage could be necessary for Artics for Route 66-Chicago and maybe 72-North Ave. But 66-Chicago really needs Artics for heavy loads between Navy Pier/ Mag Mile and Western Ave.

Even without the 6, 77th has plenty of artic worthy routes. 79 79th, 4 Cottage Grove, 3 King Drive, and other routes from 77th have VERY high ridership still with the three I just mentioned constantly showing up in the top 10 ridership reports.

I think FG would also need some artics for #77 Belmont, #80 Irving Park, & #152 Addison.

Yes, Novas do occasionally operate on 103rd-only routes because it is usually short on operable buses. These Novas are borrowed from the 74th and 77th Garages. In addition, a few New Flyers in the middle 1500s (74th) or upper 1200s or middle 1900s (77th) may be found on these routes.

Do you think this has aomething to do with buses being retrofitted with the new engines? I mean 77th usually handles that type of thing right? So maybe 103rd sent a lot of its buses to 77th to get that done and 77th sent some to us?

First sentence may be right. Second probably isn't. Heavy work is done at South Shops which is on that block, but not part of 77th.

More than likely though, it would be contracted out to Inland Detroit Diesel or Chicago Bus and Truck, as was past practice.

In any event though, it wouldn't make sense for a garage with all new buses to have a large number of "inoperative buses"

Meaning that 103rd sends mostly oldest 1000s (2006 models) to South shops?

Why would the 1000's be sent to South Shops opposed to say the 1700's(2008 models)? A New Flyer is a New Flyer, like a NOVA is a NOVA, regardless if it's a 2001 model with the Flip-Dots or a 2002 model with the LED's. It is sent to wherever it is necessary to go for repair needs.

Whichever the case, looks like 77th is now borrowing from 74th: saw #6635 working the #2 this evening at 6:40 PM. It had run 7653 but the '6' sticker was still on the windshield.

Spotted #6472 pulling into Fg last evening in front of Wright College on Narragansett with a Fg destination sign on it. From it's position it looked like it may have been out on the #74. Some buses will pullin from Grand/Nordica via Harlem or Narr.

If I am not mistaken, is a NP bus. I believe they have 6471 - 6480.

Curious about this myself, I looked it up for you. Feb 2009 was when the higher #1300's were transferred to NP and the higher #1800's evens were transferred to Chicago. I also found out more info about the Kedzie buses on the #152 during ballgames. Kedzie is running extra runs for the #152 during those times, starting with this pick. So we'll be seeing those on a regular basis for now anyway. Yesterday there were two buses parked outside Wrigley for game 1, #4002 and #4033. I don't know yet if the runs are running in service EB. I've only seen them in service WB.

Thanks for the info Bushunter. I knew I remembered riding higher number 1300s and lower 1400s on NP express runs like 136, when 1000s wasn't a rare sight on this route with it and 135 having gone just about all artic in recent months, earlier than Feb 2010.

agreed. 103rd has been getting the shaft a lot when it comes to bus trading. We've lost a total of 12 artics within the past year to other garages which is really bad seeing a there aren't really enough to handle rush hour loads on routes like the 14 and 6 now. It should go back to one of the former distributions where 103rd had about 60 artics as North Park and Kedzie have had more than enough.

#1960 has been a 77th-based bus in recent months. In fact, the entire #1930-#1963 group is based at 77th along with #1965-#1977 odds.

But #103 is a 103rd garage-based route, so that still doesn't justify NF #1960 being on that route unless it was just a loan which seems to happen more and more freuently now.

Yes, 103rd has been borrowing some buses from 74th and 77th for some time now.
