More Bus Moves

That probably was the scenario at the time and I'm trying to figure out did Kedzie and 77th fluctuate buses between #1226-29 because I'm trying to remember seeing a couple of them on #52 and #126 in 2006.

There was one summer pick a few years ago when Kedzie did take on 1226 through about 1233 from 77th. After that those eight buses along with some 1180s, all the 1190s and approximately half the original 26 1200s from Kedzie were shifted to FG in addition to the remaining 1230s, some 1240s, 1250s, 1260s and at one point some 1270s from 77th to give FG an allotment of NFs after the 6000s got taken out of service.

The 6000's were running at FG until the 2/10 cutbacks. NF's showed up there 8/09, about a week after I was hired.

It wasn't me because I didn't start posting until November of last year. Check this out:

Since when #49 start having school runs??? It starts @ Western/Division (Clemente High School) northbound. #1403 and #4145 are in operation of those runs.

Wow, Kedzie got #50 as a school run (#1210). It begins @ Damen/Adams southbound and #4366 is on that route for another school run that begins @ Damen/Foster.

49 has two Clemente trippers NB (and has for many years) at 310p and 320p. Both come out of NP via Foster-Kimball-Homan-Chicago-Western, go to Berwyn, then go downtown to 22 via Western-Foster-LSD-Monroe-Columbus-Congress-Clark to Harrison. Wednesdays only Clemente has earlier break, so buses leave 225p, 235p and are completely different - one goes to Leland and becomes a 49B, other goes to Berwyn and then back to Leland to become a 49B.

The two 50 trippers are really quite wild in many ways - the NP one starts at Foster/Damen 315p daily, goes to 35th/Orange then deadheads to Union Station to start 151. The Kedzie one Mon-Thu starts at Adams 347p goes to Orange Line then deadheads to Chicago/Fairbanks to start 121. However, Fridays starts at Adams 111pm, goes to Orange Line, becomes a 35 to Cicero/24 Pl, then turns into a 60.

While on the subject of trippers: NP has two from Kimball/Carmen at 251p and 301p (255p and 305p Wed) that work to Homan/Congress then take Ike downtown to Franklin/Congress to become a 136 and a 135. In addition a 330p from Catalpa/Kedzie (North Side Prep) via Kedzie-Bryn Mawr-Kimball to Homan/Congress then to 148 at Congress Plaza via Ike-Congress

Man, you're really "clutch" when it comes to bus operations! I really appreciate it!!! :D

You're right. There is that six month overlap, but during that overlap FG NFs only went up to about the 1240s if I remember correctly. FG may have had up 1247 given 1248-1252 still being at 77th during that six months before those five went to Kedzie upon the Feb 2010 cuts going through and then getting sent to 103rd in summer pick of 2010. Getting back to FG though, after the 2010 cuts went into effect, FG gradually started getting 1250s above 1252 and 1260s. I say gradually because a lot of what replaced 6000s at FG after 2010 were more Novas.

The Novas which came to Forest Glen on the weekend of the Feb 2010 cuts were 6574-6593.

True from Archer. But I think they got more than those Novas though since those and the NFs they got from Kedzie and 77th were less in number than the 6000s retired from FG at the time of the cuts if I'm remembering the approximate Flxible fleet ranges assigned to FG correctly.

I don't have exact numbers, but there would have been about 120 6000s at FG.

Archer's about 240 Novas would have been split between FG and 74th, although FG also had some exchanges of Novas with 77th. Again, I don't have exact dates. At one point C was about bereft of Novas, but got some back, presumably also from Archer when the 6000s were retired.

In Dec 2009 I have 6106-9/12-4/7-224-41/4/5/7-84/6-96 recorded at FG (82). The missing ones had primarily been withdrawn in 2009.

When Archer closed in 2/10 FG gained 1257-61 from 77th and 6567/9-93, 6708-20 from Archer. FG had already received NFlyers from K and 77th during 2009 to start replacing 6000s.

The rest of Archers Nova's went to

77th 6466-70

74th 6471-81, 6594-6609, 6611-6687

C 6521-66

P 6688-6707

Looks cool, but why can't they use actual sounds? 'L' Trains don't have that type of horn, just a whistle...

Actually a little speaker that sounds like a whistle, but it's practically the same thing based on the sound.

Anyways, I'm for actual sounds too. If they start using tire squeals for when the trains go around corners, then I'll be worried.

Ti-1 and T1-2 have been positively ID'd. They are two of the three "mechanical trainers" that have been around for years and were never regular service buses. The Flx was the original 5300 that was the pilot and saw a couple of days of service at FG on 81-Lawrence. The RTS was never complete internally and was always all-white. There might be a third, T1-3, as there is a Nova at the training center at 89th numbered 7200 that was never an in service bus.

Small correction based on CTA information - both buses are identified by CTA as "Ti-1". I know this sounds strange, but this is what they say. Anyway, the TMC is properly known as asset 92367 and the Flx as asset 107500.

Well, talk about getting lucky finding heat if the standard time frame for them to be on is November 1st thru March 31st.

I misconstrued your post the first time, and hence deleted my first response.

However, if I am now getting you properly, considering the polar vortex, which has never really left, the heat probably ought to be on. It was snowing on April 14, 2014, for instance, and the vortex is supposed to make a return early next week (Skilling & Co. now is blaming it on another Japanese typhoon).

Japanese typhoon??? Seriously??? All that for this bipolar vortex is really redundant. What's next? Blaming a tsunami???

The theory is that either the north Pacific is so hot that fish from Baja California are now off Alaska and the salmon are not running* or typhoons push warm air up the Pacific that it dislodges polar air and sends it down here.** At least if you watch Skilling enough.

Rick "Hold" DiMaio (former channel 32 meteorologist before the well named Amy Freeze) said on the radio a couple of days ago that the weather pattern now is the same as last year.

_________

*There was some PBS science show about bears starving because there wasn't any salmon.

**This article seems to be the only Internet source.
