Well the option 1s we do have were fairly low mileage when we got em last year so it makes sense to send the others ones out to pasture.

What’s option 1s (just wondering) and that was the reason why there were moves around?

So I'm sure option 1 is #1000 - #1429. The moves may be to even out Flyer counts among all 7 garages before rehabs take place for the #1000's which is smart considering up to 400 - 430 will get yanked periodically for them.

So this was an unexpected move and it's a lot to unpack. Here's the official run down so far.

#8134,#8137, #8138, #8139, #8140, #8141, #8142, #8142, #8143, #8145, #8152, #8153, #8154, #8155, #8156, #8157, #8158, #8160, & #8161 moved from C to 77th in exchange for

#1079, #1090, #1240, #1241, #1242, #1243, #1245, #1246, #1247, #1262, #1350, #1351, #1352, #1353, #1354, #1365, #1435, #1437, #1613, #1614, #1615, #1616, #1620, #1622,  & #1624

#7902 #7905 #7906 #7908, #8109 - #8119, #8122 - #8131 & #8133 moved from C to 74th in exchange for #1366, #1371, #1377, #1380, #1382, #1399, #1409, #1422, #1428, #1429, #1436, #1441, #1442, #1449, #1462, #1465, #1466, #1481, #1487, #1488, #1500, #1503, #1526, #1530, #1539, #1542, #1558, #1561 & #1565

Well I guess that answers the question of when 74th and 77th would offload some New Flyers. T

I would of preferred those 6 remaining Allison's they had over more 7900s being moved to 77th. They sent C a good chunk of equipment based on the bus numbers I listed as far as the flyers are concerned. Those 8100s may not be that beneficial to 74th but they will be for 77th unfortunately. C made sure to keep those #8350s from getting moved.

I was just going to say trading out 8350s would have made a bit more sense in at least one of those trades considering C has over 150 of them. 😂

With all the Flyers at Chicago I better hope they start adding them more often on Pulaski and Cicero

With all the Novas Chicago garage lost, and all the New Flyers it received in exchange, I can't envision the Authority running #53 & #54 as all-Novas every day. Especially since their reclassification as Frequent Bus Network routes.

It might be similar to 93 when extended to Logan Square. It was noted that it was all Novas until someone took a picture of a NF with the wrong sign. Or it may be an effort to encourage ridership.

It seems like C has proportionately more 8350s than, say 74th or 77th, but maybe CTA is working to even it out.

As they used to say on All Star Wrestling, "Anything can happen and probably will."

There may be another move to even out the 8350s across the system as it has been observed that 3 garages have over half the fleet of 600. I always felt each garage should of received 85 - 100 depending on the garage needs. With the #1000s rehabs looming an adjustment of the #7900s and #8350s is long overdue. Each garage should get 80 - 90 flyers a piece.

Does a garage usually have preference for what buses it has or wants to trade? Like was it Cs call to say they wanted to sacrifice 7900s to 6 & 7 instead of losing its 8350s? Is it CTAs plan to have the remaining 1000s at every garage or try to condense them down to a few garages? I could possibly see FG, 6 & 7 being the last garages to retire the 1000s when the fleet fully retires. As far as bus tracker the 54 is pretty much all 8350s with the 53 having a few occasional 1000s.

There seem to be some preferences, like limiting the number of series in each garage to limit parts inventories, but usually proportionality occurs eventually. Any decision would be made on the headquarters level, as otherwise 77th would hog everything. (Maybe now C.) There may be special factors, such as which areas get electric buses, or, in the past, 74th not getting many 1000s because its 6000s were still running. However since there are now only limited types (1000s, Novas, and artics), there shouldn't be a disproportionate amount of 1000s at any garage.

Good morning. I saw 1405 working the J14 Jeffery Jump last night going SB at 57th and So. Lake Shore Drive. Not sure if was a loan or it has been reassigned to 3 but it was odd to see.

1405 has been moved to 3 since May 2025 from north park garage.

Today's run assignments at least showed you to be correct. Both the 53 and 54 had a significant number of New Flyers in operation compared to what we've been seeing the last year or two. It was still less than half, but the number of buses on each route that weren't Novas was still noticeable. Though in these recent months even the 7900s were becoming more rare to see on these two, and that's been long before C had the recent swap of 50 7900 series to both 74th and 77th. Even the 54B had a New Flyer or two throughout different parts of the day.
