Blue Ine trains not stopping at Clinton due to icy conditions.

Usually they put those space heater heat lamps at leaks so they dont pose a problem. But either they missed that at clinton or it has too many leaks. There were picture on chicago l facebook site and the stop was open. I noticed soon after that appeared the stop closed temporarily.

Red line service is suspended due to a mechanical problem on a train at Monroe. Shuttle buses are being used. I saw 1971 1787 and 1731 on abc 7 news.

That's odd.  Usually a disruption in the Red Line subway leads to over the top elevated service. Suspension usually occurs if the disruption is north of Armitage or Cermak and anywhere south of that

Signal box has fallen onto the structure near Roscoe on the red line, shorting out a few tracks. Major disruption on the red line. Hmm, the flyover is in that area. At least its not concrete. Lol!! Brown line was affected, its slowly coming back online. Purple line express was canceled this morning as well from howard south.

In bus news, something happened on lsd with a #148 this morning. Reports are traffic was backed up sb all the way from delaware to irving pk at one point. Conditions are improving there.

And then we have the free gas giveaway. Never a dull moment here.

WLS-TV just said that it wasn't a signal box, but the CTA says they don't know what happened as of 11:00 AM

Brown Line is running, but slow, but the Red is still shut down.

How does a signal box fall on the tracks?  How can a train hit a signal box? This doesn't seem to make sense.   I  could comprehend this a little better if this happened NORTH Of Belmont Ave with the construction going on.  Something could have lodged the signal box to lean enough for a train to hit it.  But if this happened SOUTH of Belmont,  this doesn't make sense.

it was said to be south of belmont by wellington but i passed by like 2hrs ago it was north of belmont a NB signal fell onto the 3rd rail something did force it to lean and it fell while the train was passing thru the interlocking and winded up at grand they were replacing the old signal with a new one when i passed

So it seems like a SB Red Line train hot ot.  Interesting that the operator didn't know something was wrong until he reached Grand.  I can't imagine an operator pushing an object down the tracks and not realize it.    To me  the more likely scenario is that the train hit the box and it fell on the third rail.  Which tracks it fell on i don't know.  Apparently another train noticed the problem and called control.  Somehow CTA figured out the culprit train which made it all the way to Grand

I don't believe the box was pushed or pulled that far or at all.  Since the operating signal boxes are generally to the operator's right. It seems crazy that an operator could hit it and not know it.  I suppose maybe the train didn't hot it. But if the box was leaning or the base was loose, the vibration from the passing train could cause it to fall. How close was the box to the temporary structure or the portion of structure being torn down?

so the signal that fell was on track 3 (old howard bound track) it was a signal for northbound trains but a southbound train hit it (the signal was on the operator’s left side when it was hit) but how badly damaged the signal was it had to be replaced as of 4pm crews have repaired it but i’m just suprised the train made it all the way to grand before realizing it smacked into something and yes word has it the signal was leaning from the construction going on and boom yk the rest from there

here’s a video i took

I understand now except what or how did the operator not know he hit the box or how did he become aware of the situation at Grand?  Assuming the followe discovered (or his train hit) the next laying on the third rail.  The follwe calls control to report the situation.  By the time CTA called CFD and shut off power, the preceding train that initially hit the box was in the subway past the affected power grid.  CTA control had inspectors meet the train at Grand to check for damage.

Even though the incident happened in the left side, didn't the operator hear an unusual sound when passing through?  Did anyone ever notice or report the leaning signal box or was that something that occurred this morning?

it just happened out of no where around 7am but you might be right his follower probably seen the signal and reported it and control found out what train it could have been and they found the correct one at grand

interesting enough operators heard a loud bang and sparks fly (southbound run 807 was the train involved that was at grand)

New alert out that Blue Line trains operating only to Rosemont due to signal issues heading to the airport. At this time, CTA makes no mention of bus shuttles, quite possibly due to it being PM rush and no extra buses available. They just say try to use other bus service or buses to other rail services.

this was the same deal yesterday. there is no explanation of why the tracks are closed

On CTA'S website they said they are working to restore service.  So apparently there has to be a track issue where there's only one track available south of 59th Street.   I believe the only two places on that branch where there are crossovers are 61st and a crossover just west of Cottage Grove.

The Construction Report for the past couple of months has said that there is the Jackson Park Track and Structure Improvements project. Most of the track work was between 59th and 62nd, but they have moved on to structural work at 63rd and King Dr.
