MTRSP1900-CTA3200
I just received word that 8 #2600's are now at midway yard. #2609-10, #2635-36, #2661-62 and #2799-2800. Rush hour may be interesting soon.
BusHunter
I just received word that 8 #2600's are now at midway yard. #2609-10, #2635-36, #2661-62 and #2799-2800. So far they are not letting Midway crews use the 8 #2600's, maybe they still have to change rollsigns for the Orange line and Brown as these will take the place of the #2400's duties. They have put #2433-34 on hold though. Rumor has it those may be the cars IRM is selecting because it's getting close to that time. peterpyterek
What are 2401-04 doing on the Purple Line? I thought the Purple Line's 2400's were all retired.

Those are among the work motors, and the work motors are presumably not retired.

Technically they are all retired from the Purple line. just think of these as extra cars. If they need them they are there.

It'll probably be another 20-30 years before there might be another set of rail cars to have that type of seat layout.

BusHunter
#2549-50 went to skokie shops yesterday from midway yard so we can scratch another 2 #2400's off the roster. My rail contact tells me they will stop inspecting #2400's Oct. 1st so I guess they'll all be gone by then.
GreenHornet
Can anyone confirm how many 2400s may be operating in the AM rush period on the Orange Line as of July 29, 2014? It is reported that no 2400s are being used in the PM rush period on the Orange Line.
Juniorz
The real questions are how many are left & will the workcars stay or retire. The number is low now & alotta answers should be answered soon
BusHunter
The real questions are how many are left & will the workcars stay or retire. The number is low now & alotta answers should be answered soon There's still plenty at midway yard about 4-5 strings at least of 8 car trains. The question I have is why hasn't the Orange line got more #2600's than it has? Unless the #3200's are going to be the future Brownages. The way the #5000's are setting up looks like the Red line's going to get the #5500's and the Orange line will get #5600's on up. I'll see if I can take in the Brownages one day next week and I'll count what's running for #2400's and take a look at Midway yard.

I think there are between 4-5 possibly 6 of full 8 car trains that are used in the am peak period. I saw this morning a set of 4, couldn't see the numbers, going into their repair shop. I'm not for sure what that part of the yard is called, I wondered why are they going in there? There are sporadic married sets but I couldn't get a read on their numbers, that have a blue 'C' in the front cab window and wheel blocks placing them 'on hold' I'm guessing. Yes, I've seen 2400's as Brownages before, but I've also seen 3200's below 3287 on the Brown Line in the early a.m(3201-3286). But the way I figure it, any railcar series on the Orange Line can be Brownages, even any 5000's that may be assigned there. So long as it gets you from Kimball to Midway, does it matter? The Brownages are operated by Orange Line Rail Operators, so there's no questioning that they wouldn't be able to operate the trains. All the tower operators need to see is the marker lights and switch tracks accordingly for the trains.
