The roof boards are there to conceal the batteries and other junk on the roof of a hybrid bus. Diesels don't have anything to conceal (except for the mini HVAC units).

Right. No batteries on top so no need for roof fins. So you pretty much aren't going to see a clean diesel anywhere in any TA with roof fins unless something unique and strange is going on with the bus.

Add two more 4300s in service:

4361 (103rd Garage) was on the #26 this morning and is right now on the #28.

4364 (Kedzie Garage) is on the #143 this afternoon.

Whatever happened to 4313, 4322, 4332, 4345, 4349, 4353, 4354, and 4358?

Garage-wise, 4353 is assigned to 103rd and 4358 is assigned to Kedzie. 4313 did run briefly on the 103rd Garage routes but has not appeared since. 4322, 4332, 4345, 4349 and 4354 are at South Shops and have not been officially placed into revenue service yet.

I spoke to an operator from 77th street on the train on Friday. He stated that the first of the 4300s will be in service there shortly as they are all required to be trained on the buses. They will be assigned to routes 4 and 79 once put into service.

I spotted 4369, 4371, & 4372 at 77th waiting to enter service while 4313 and another New Flyer artic of the 4300 Series along with a couple of New Flyer artics of the 4000 Series, some 40 footers, and 1 30 footer are probably needing repairs.

As of this morning, the first two 4300s assigned to 77th Garage went into service:

4349 and 4368 are on the #4. This might be the beginning of the end for some of the oldest Novas in 77th's fleet.

Great to see artics back @ 77th again. They should get about 35-40 4300s in the next 2 months. Also look for about 30 4000's from NP switched to 77/103rd in time for the 5/19/2013 Red Line shuttle service.

I also virtually spotted 4365 on 4 Cottage Grove.

The question is will they stay at 77th beyond the Red line Dan Ryan project? At least it shows they are concerned about bus overcrowding for the project. 103rd has about 25 more artics than they used to and most likely 77th is getting what's left of the #4300 order minus a couple to Kedzie or 103rd. I'm still wondering why there not running artics on the #3, (it's busier than #4) but in time they probably will.

Rode #4368 this afternoon on the #4 around 1:30. definately needed as it was packed front to back.

My prediction of the artics being used on two of 77th's most heavily patronized routes came true.

For the record, the 4300s at 103rd are used primarily on the #6 although other types of buses (4000s and even 40-footers) are occasionally found on that route and a few 4300s found their way on some of 103rd's other routes. Kedzie's route assignment of the 4300s is less clear-cut.

Finally, add one more: 4332 is also on the #79.

They've become pretty consistent on the 26. Highest artic use i've ever seen on that route to this date

I wouldn't be surprised somehow if 77ths 4300s got swapped with 103rds former 4000s or NP current upper 4000s whether its before or after the Dan Ryan project. CTA just loves to shuffle equipment around be it bus or rail.
