I meant in the sense that the 5300s and 6000s were different bus series that were similar models with minor differences, not series number wise. Starting a series on a 50 instead of a 100 is definitely out the ordinary. I’ve gotten to use to NF holding majority of the bus fleet especially the idea that there’s the same bus series at every garage on every route.

It's our id the ordinary,  but Pace did it in 2013. THE NABIs ended at 6322 and Eldorado Axxess buses started with 6323 .  What's even crazier is that Pace already had 6600 series NABIS and 6900 series NCI D Series byses operating. Oaxe had to jump over the 6600s when numbering the Axxess buses

Maybe  but the point is that though it's rare, it's been done though I can't recall CTA ever doing that  before now.

Actually thinking about it,  the 4333s are different from the 4300s even though they were ordered at the same time.   The only difference is that the 4300svare electric hybrids and the 4333s are clean diesels.   Bur they are considered different series and the clean diesels are numbered starting with 4333 with the last Hybrid numbered 4332.  Based on this,  I would argue that the 8350s are a separate series.

Or just like the 800 and 900-series DE40LFs which are two separate series and had two different Hybrid drivetrains but was part of the same order with the 1000-series order. The original order of the #1000’s was 265 buses mainly 245 of the #1000’s #1000-1244 and the 20 DE40LFs but that backfired to be prosecuted to 1,050 buses being delivered to CTA with the #4400’s, #5300’s, #5800’s and the #6000’s needed to be replaced.

The 9800 had 2+2 seating, the 1600 2+1. It was the same with 6000 2+2 & 5300 2+1.

But 1929 - 2029 have the bowling alley seating and is still considered part of the 1000 series.   Those also have a different transmission compared to the others.

Similarly New Fkter artics 4150 - 4207 also have the bowling alley seating but are still part of the 4000 series

So previously cta did allocate different number series, now they do not!

Yeah CTA always do a few changes with the options of newer buses in one fleet.

So #8421 just popped up in revenue service at FG. Does this mean that they're getting the entire base order?

I always felt like FG should get the entire base order.   Since we know the first option is exercised, we will see what garage gets the next order.  Perhaps that will be 103rd, seeing as most of their New Flyer buses are among the oldest in CTA'S fleet . If this pattern continues,  i expect the only garage that won't have any 8350s is NP, which generally hasn't had Novas,  except for the short period following Archer's closure.

Looks like they are, if another #8400 pops then that’s a sign that they will. If so are they sending #8343-8349 to 103rd?

Why would they move 8343-8349 when they would still need those? If anything it would probably just mean that 103rd might be next to get 8350s if CTA exercises the next option as seems very likely. I'm just hoping NOVA took care of that weak AC issue that revealed itself in the 7900s. It still seems to be an apparent issue even in the 8325-8349 set of the 7900s if my last ride on 8347 a couple weeks ago when it really hot out is an indication. Those tinted windows only do so much.
