Rhys Pate
These are videos that I took yesterday of 6869 on route 80. I rode 6869 westbound from Irving Park/Lamon to Irving Park/Harlem (the trip terminated at Irving Park/Harlem). At the end of the trip, 6869 went out of service. 6869 then turned onto Harlem, and after that turned onto Forest Preserve Drive. IMG_3073.MOV IMG_3071.MOV Forest Preserve Drive is the fastest way back to the garage. From Forest Preserve.m, you turn north on Narragansett/Nagle to Bryn Mawr, then turn east on Bryn Mawr straight to the garage. Addison and Belmont buses ending at Cumberland or even Harlem use this routing. Interesting that the 6400s are still running at FG despite the arrival of a handful of new buses. Rhys Pate
As I posted earlier, 6869 was not the only 6400 out yesterday. 6849 (on route 84), 6858 (on route 152), and 6859 (on route 77) were also out yesterday. There are 11 6400s that are still active. The list of active 6400s is on the previous page.

Facts, now that the block of the #8350’s are in service, CTA can retire these now. Why run old equipment that’s scheduled to get replaced by the new equipment and those are finally running as well both at the same time lol. Ghoul
Unfortunately I went to visit Forest Glen. And the 10 remaining 6800s are now in the Deadlot. The 8350s have done it

The next move that they could possibly be prepped for their final retirement and towed down to South Shops to await their time in the boneyard to get hauled away to the scrapper, now since they’ve haven’t ran in a week or a few days ago, there should be no point of running them and there is enough of the #8350’s to phase these out now since 10-11 of the #6400’s returned to service last year while the rest of the 60 Novas in the fleet hasn’t ran in over a year since #6860’s fire. They'll probably be driven to SS.

Rhys Pate
Since the entire 6400-series is now retired, how many 6400-series buses are in storage at garages or at South Shops (waiting to be scrapped, preserved, or something else to happen to them)?
Rhys Pate
The above meaning 6400-series buses that haven’t left the CTA as departures (for example, to be scrapped), yet.

Rhys Pate
I hope that some 6400-series buses will get preserved (going to museums or becoming part of the CTA’s Heritage Fleet), as the 6400-series was the CTA’s first large order of low-floor buses. It is easier for seniors and passengers with disabilities to board low-floor buses. I do know that 6472 is the CTA’s Community Connection bus (6472 was overhauled and modified after being retired in 2017).
Rhys Pate
Because the 6400-series was the CTA’s first large order of low-floor buses, the 6400-series is historically significant.

I think the 5800 series New Flyers are more noteworthy because they were CTA's FIRST EVER ORDER of Loor buses. Without them, there's no 6400s.

Well we are keeping #6472 of course, #6539 and #6728 are stored in Fresh Moves, Ex-#6712 and Ex-#6783 are work buses you can possibly see those in the dead lot at FG. The status of the following Novas #6470, #6477, #6488, #6558, #6579, #6585, #6671, #6694, #6696 and #6697 are unknown/Retired, the plan was to use them as Instruction buses to train new drivers but that plan was demolished.
