I winder why the brown didnt get the 5000 cars in surprised they didnt

Howard use 484 cars leaving 230 left for brown and orange which would need another 366 and since 5000s aren’t compatible, no mixing old an new like you could with blues 2600s 2200s so 230 cars left after assigning them to Howard meant only green and pink (150 cars need for those) were the only lines left for full conversion. Now you COULD say that’s enough to convert orange or brown but why do that when brown and orange both had 3200s while green and pink used old cars. BUT throw in the logic of lighter lines should have older equipment then it makes sense to take green and pinks 5000s and send it’s 2600s to those two (yes I know they have 3200s but the rest of those are going to the blue line soon anyway).

Because Howard went universal with equipment, meaning red (374 cars needed), yellow( 10) and purple (100) use 484 cars leaving 230. Brown and orange use 178 and 188 which means you are short 80 cars and since they wanted lines fully converted that left the pink and green as the only lines that can take them. Now you could say they had enough left to convert either the orange or brown fully but why give 2 lines that always had the newer equipment (one of which is relatively light) while green and pink had 2600s and 2400s? Even if the blue was able to run 5000s and they had them instead of the red line, they use 400 cars and after which if you send them to orange or brown you would only have enough to put them on green pink OR purple and they would only be able to choose green at that point due to them wanting Howard using an interchangeable fleet. So by using the current set up you only have 3 lines running old equipment compared to anything else you’d probably have 4-5 using old equipment sense Howard wouldn’t only assign 5000s to one line

they didnt even need 10 for the yellow…yellow only uses like 4 or 6 cars and still manages to borrow from the red when yellow’s cars are OOS speaking of cars i wonder when 5711-5714 will be back on red

anyways back to being on topic since this a more bus moves page

Wasn’t the Purple Lines 5000s getting repaired at the time they received 5711-5714?

Possibly. To be honest with Howard being all 5000s even though each line is assigned their own sets (I.e the purple line having all 5400s); being all one car type means without having to qualify each lines operator on separate car types (which probably was the main reason we didn’t see car shuffles as often as we see recently) means you can more easily swap cars between lines know since everyone’s trained on the only car there. I’d imagine you’d have to be more methodical before where you had to make sure whoever was moving a car to heavy maintenance etc was trained on purple or green to move a 2400 from Howard to Skokie, the red line to move a 2600. Now anyone can move and switch cars on a dime so anything at Howard should be thought of as R/P/Y not jsut “red line” cars or purple lol.

Now I slightly see where this is going don’t mind my slow thinking lol…, the Red, Yellow and Purple Lines aren’t like the Pink and Green Lines in my opinion sharing each other’s cars which they have their own sets of cars, it does make sense for the Red, Purple and Yellow Lines to share each other’s cars while they have the RPY maps inside every set of 5000s that are assigned to Howard but at the same time the way things are when it comes to their own sets of cars is fine for now. We have the 5400s on Purple, a few 5520s on the Yellow and the lower 5200 sets which is on the Pink assigned to the Blue Line during rush periods formerly known as Red Line cars, the upper 5200s, 5500s, 5600s and 5700s are on the Red. Before the 5000s were transferred to the Blue Line for rush period service in late 2018 I think the Red Line had a little over 400 cars assigned there when 75% of the 5000s went there after their delivery. I just saw #5197-98 not too long ago on the Red Line even tho it’s originally assigned to the Green Line even tho Green and Pink share each other’s cars, I remember seeing some of the Green/Pink Line cars on the Red Line throughout 2019 the units were #5005-06, #5007-08 during the time #5617-18, #5689-90 and another two cars in the 5600s when they were on the Green Line for a little while throughout 2019, but those lower 5000s and the 5600s are back home on their home lines.

3350 is back in service on the brown line paired with 3449 3448 is with 3351

That is an unusual pairing as in almost all cases, the even numbered car is the higher numbered car.  I assume these pairs took place because something happened to 3447 and 3352.  3449 and 3450 is a normal pairing.

idk why they mismatched them i could’ve sworn i seen 3447 the other day

These are the roof board cars.  If I'm not mistaken 3457 wasn't the original car number.  It got paired with a 2600 series car that was renumbered 3458.  I don't remember its original car number. But its mate was retired or damaged beyond repair.

The original number of #3458 is ex-#3032.

Ok.  Now where is 3447 and 3452?

I’m not sure exactly, Ik for a fact that #3448 is apparently paired with #3351 not sure why, maybe #3447 & #3452 was taken OOS or paired with their own another unit. And it’s slightly weird to see a non-roof board 3200-series car (#3351) paired to a roof board 3200-series car (#3448). (Credits go to the owner of this photo).

Welp guys, this could be why #3352 is still OOS these were taken a long time ago you’ll notice the rollsigns on the front of the car in one of these files. I am still not sure about #3447. Found these off of Flickriver.F5A64634-7994-4A5D-9863-3C54FE92CBA1.thumb.png.07b846fb331edb2f8270f48af983ec8b.png

Was this when a train hit a car at Kedzie Brown Line  and the impact caused the train to hit the station platform?   I forgot what year.
