Very true. both would do good for some small orders under 700 buses or rail cars. But still they gotta think ahead for future orders and series as well and most of the numbers I bought up are assigned to relatively new series of equipment thats not going anywhere for a good while and the next series thats going to be retired after the rail cars are the 1000-series New Flyer D40LF which are 1030 buses meaning unless they are going to have multiple contracts/models replace this series, they need to keep a whole 1000 numbers open for that purpose and there aren't many options left with all the various numbers for the assigned to relatively new equipment thats still going to be here around that time. So I bought up the point of consolidation because maybe they are trying to keep 2000, 3000, 6000 and 9000 open for that plus the DE60LF models which are gonna hit retirement age around the time they get to retiring option 3 or 4 of the #1000 series.

Is there a reason why you’re bringing up the obvious which was mentioned in 2019, the date in the post you quoted? That message is 6 years old and both 7901 and 7902 are in active service now.

The 7900s have really been getting beat up lately, I think two weeks ago a collision on a 79th Street bus happens that resulted in the buses wind shield being broken and the incident last night close to FG involving 8237.

It looks like they started with the rehabs of the 7900’s. I saw 8015 with new seats lol.

Allegedly 8049 has a screen that shows the security camera footage. Similar to pace, there was a TikTok about it but I can’t find it.

8071 has new seats, I do miss the cloth seats. Theses seats are slightly less comfortable.

They are comfier, but also incredibly gross. I can't sit down on any of them without checking twice.

• So far  only 8000s have been mentioned (so far as I recall) Does this mean that (what's left of) 7900-7999 have been rehabbed?
• Are the new seats similar to or the same ones as in 8200-8232 (experimental plastic inserts)?

Hard to say how many of what remains of 7900-99 got the rehab treatment if any. A good number of them that I see on the road as currently split among K, F and 77th (the few that are at 103rd I don't really see in person to comment on) still look time-worn and/or still have the cloth seat inserts.

A majority didn't get much of anything interior wise, everything FG got from 77th was given a fresh coat of paint last year along with some mechanical upgrades. 77th does have a few #7900s running around a mix of fabric/plastic seat inserts.  FG mechanics hates the #7900s they received from 77th along with the remaining #8200s they have. 74th may have a few #8000s running around with new seat inserts but that doesn't necessarily mean they rehabbed the entire bus.

I personally only saw 3 buses so far with new seats in them and those buses are 8015, 8060, and 8071.

The new seats are being installed quickly on novas around the city. There’s at least 10 novas at every garage with the new seats.

 

exception 8200-8249 don’t have the new seats covers (yet)

I think some 7900,8000 and 8100s are getting new engines. Last week it was 8154, today it’s 8063. They both sound new

as far as I know they are undergoing some sort of midlife overhaul

I’m pretty sure the engines are only being rebuilt not replaced.
