garmon757
It will be interesting to see how long before these three see action on CTA routes.I give it until the beginning of the Fall picks for #7928 and #7932 to be in service. #7955 about 2-3 weeks because it's very fresh out the box and yet to have its license plates. Busjack
.... The people that say I'm wrong, where are all your facts saying I'm wrong? Then how can you say I don't have any facts when I just told you I have press that puts nova bus in a bad light. I even kept it off this site. (So far) I have reports from CTA managers saying I'm right but I'm not selling people out to please a few fans. If that's not enough for you tough!! That's life!! I guess you didn't understand the word Kevin used "unsubstantiated." I'm not claiming any inside knowledge, but again, you don't have any journalist's privilege, so stop playing Woodward and Bermstein. And if there are CTA managers putting defective buses on the street, they ought to be exposed. Not here, but call Hilkevitch or Swartz. Tribune has his e-mail address. Let's also remember, I don't have authority to lock the thread.

BusHunter
Keep it civil and provide adequate sources, friends… just because you're making observations and assumptions, be weary about wandering off course. That's Ok I'm done with it. I said what I needed to say or was baited to say. Couldn't help but notice CTA already has the bike racks on those buses, so depending on when they get more will really decide when they come out. ctrabs74
The explanation is that there has to be a VIN (vehicle identification number) plate on each body. The fleet number is based on that. Websites used to put up the VIN lists, but seems to have died about 10 years ago. I don't think it's a coincidence that they started dying out after transit agencies become more self-conscious about security after 9/11... Not that the two are mutually exclusive, but I miss those lists.

Not that the two are mutually exclusive, but I miss those lists. I'm not so sure it was the TAs, as the lists were usually by manufacturer, or something like the Ohio Museum of Transportation used to post them. Maybe it gets down to NF not being interested, and the rest of them being out of business.
Buslover88
7909 is operating on #1 Indiana-Bronzeville at this moment. Although it's not showing up on the BusTracker map, if you click one of northbound bus stops near 35th St., you'll see a time arrival with 7909 on it. Buslover88
You also have 7917 operating on #53A South Pulaski.
garmon757
Not trying to sound like a jerk but can some of us please stop posting the same buses that are already in service on the same routes unless they are new, having any kind of problems, and/or on a different route that's not 77th's.

Actually garmon, it's good to continue mentioning them, even if they are on the same routes each day. It continues to show us they are on the road, not out of service for any issues that may or may not be true. If this thread goes cold before the last Nova of the order arrives, questions will arise, squabbling will begin again and the moderators will start taking action for sure. Keeping activity showing, even if it's the same current 12 buses will keep that tempered down unless something major comes through the pipeline from the CTA, Hilkevitch(Busjack's favorite reporter) or other sources that are credible. We don't need to hear about the same buses out everyday to know that 7900s are still in service. All anyone has to do is take a look at BusTracker and see 79xx on a 77th based route to see that. It's actually more helpful at this point to just report 7900s that haven't been seen in service before unless that person was off the site for a while and didn't know that the bus they're mentioning was already reported put into revenue service.
Guest
No that's your opinion based off one admittedly dumb move CTA made earlier this year. But bus assignments at FG since at least 1991 back up no actual facts that CTA has treated FG unfairly. My dad worked at FG for 14 years! I worked at FG for over five years!, I know the facts!!! Please don't insult my intelligence!
geneking7320
I am not a Nova fan but I must admit that the 7900s seem to be very quiet [observing a 7900 coming out of service at 35th and Michigan heading to 77th Garage]. How does the noise level inside compare to the 1000s?
Mr.cta85
I guess today 77th decided to send every 7900 series bus downtown today cause I saw a 7900 every corner I turned lol I saw 2 right behind each other both as a 2 and I saw one as a 3 as well as a 1 all while doing the J14 today. jajuan
My dad worked at FG for 14 years! I worked at FG for over five years!, I know the facts!!! Please don't insult my intelligence! No one's insulting your intelligence. I'm looking at what actually went to FG and other garages as a whole over the course of almost 25 years, and the evidence suggests that FG has been treated no different from any of the other garages, especially when you consider for example 74th at one point had to contend with all Flx 6000s, all of which were at or past retirement age, for several months at one point and would not have gotten any NFs if not for so many 6000s dying and staying out for maintenance and affecting 74th's ability to keep enough buses in service. 74th originally wasn't going to get further NFs beyond that initial 30, but it did get an additional 80 in late 2008 through Kedzie and Chicago sending 40 NFs each for 80 6000s split evenly between Kedzie and Chicago. It got about 25 to 30 more plus half of the Archer 6400s after Archer closed and the 6000s were mothballed as part of the 2010 cuts. That was unfair to affected south side riders that 74th had all 6000s then as FG having nothing but 6400s now, one move that I agreed was a dumb one. Outside of that, overall evidence points to FG being treated the same as the rest. I think I also made the point that outside of the MAN 4000s, 74th, Kedzie, North Park and 103rd nothing but retirement age 4400s and/or 5300s on their 40 foot rosters once the MAN 4000s were finally retired, and it took another 5 years after the 4000s' retirement to completely replace all those old buses, by which time the 6000s were two years on average beyond retirement age. Kedzie at that point had a 6000 count that creeped back up to between 20-25% its roster and at 74th the count was about 50% of the roster. If not for the 2010 cuts who knows how long they would have had to keep that particular junk? CTA had no original plans to retire the 6000s if not for the 2010 cuts. They even left the door open that they would probably bring them out of their retirement if those cuts had been reversed anytime soon by some miracle. So again, based on that what you're presenting is opinion not facts regardless of you working at FG when you were a CTA operator. That's not insulting your intelligence but looking at the evidence at hand objectively, so I'm not going to play this game of you trying to spin things as me turning this into anything personal. If anything, the real problem is that CTA purchases its revenue vehicles in a way that leaves too many buses set to retire at one time that creates these situations. I made this particular point and the others above during the last time you posed this FG is being treated unfairly argument.
