I saw 8686 going EB on 79th crossing Jeffery earlier today.

That is one of a bunch of buses that were transferred from FG to 77th after the DNC.

To be precise, buses 8343–8345, 8398, 8401, 8403, 8408, 8410, 8449, 8461–8463, 8465, 8467, 8468, 8470, 8471, 8473, 8481, 8655, 8669, 8674–8680, 8686, 8688, 8692, 8695–8698 and 8720.

In addition, buses 8699–8708, 8710, 8711, 8714 and 8716 went from FG to 74th around the same time.

Oh, I forgot 8604, 8613, 8621 and 8624 – all these former FG buses now at 77th.

What is the point of giving FG new buses just to take them away & send them to other garage like dam let FG have new buses for a change 7 & 6 can make do with the novas they have & they can get the news novas that are still coming in it's real stupid how CTA does FG it's like constantly giving your kid a new toy then constantly taking it giving it away to another kid by me being a father that's the way I think about it cause tbh 7 & 6 aren't gonna do anything but tear the buses up

Well if you remember, @YoungBusLover reported early last week that between those worst off 1000s being retired, others waiting for repair, AND the number of 7900s also waiting for repair, South Shops is swamped. All that is in top of them prepping newer 8350s for service as they get delivered. So CTA spread out 8350s already here a bit more and conducted a small 7900 for 8350 swap in conjunction with typical summer to fall reassignments to help even out mileage and mitigate having as many buses go down for repair work that can't be done at home garages.

I can agree with you about 7 tearing the buses up but I’m offended when you said 6 lol. I work out 74th garage and we take good care of our buses as operators especially me lol. 77th is known for their operators being reckless with the buses but not 74th.

Mybad dawg just saying from what I experienced riding the 9 last week to 74th a bus sounded so bad in suspension & a few days before 1531 I think it was sounded like the trans was tired didn't that get a second rehab not long ago lol but yea I'm standing on that about 7

Yea I know some repairs can't be don't at the home garage but it's just so strange to me eveytime they give FG new buses they just say sike & take em back & give them run down buses like they did them with the 8300's then again with the 8325's now with the latest round of novas then give them run down buses like when they are just gonna let FG have new buses for good I haven't been keeping up with all of the bus moves with person stuff going on I don't even be paying attention to many of the buse we have at C now I just get one & go

You do realize 77th had only received 1 brand new bus being #8405 until the Blue Line shuttles . FG and 103rd received  pretty much a majority of the Deliveries early on and then C took a majority of the rest while K and 77th got bread crumbs. 74th and 77th has had the same amount of equipment for about 8 - 10 years now when it comes to the #1000s and #7900s/ #8000s.  The quote on quote "77th always abuses equipment or runs it into the ground." Isn't necessarily true since I've been there for practically the last 5 years now. Have the 89 #7900s shown there age after 300k miles at one garage? Yes. Have the 150+ #1000s we have made it more difficult to maintain the #7900s simultaneously? Absolutely.  FG had a surplus of buses that they really didn't need after the DNC and they just happen to be brand new but when you look at the rosters you'll see that FG and 77th have just about the same amount of 7900s/8350s so who really got shafted in the end? Heck we even have more #1000s than FG. If we want to throw any garage in the system right now that is getting shafted I'll showcase the rosters below and you tell me who is really getting shafted right now. 😅

77th has had this reputation for decades going back to at least the early 1970s.   Are the operators totally at fault?  No.  But historically new operators have been assigned to 77th as more senior operators opt for other garages.  Therefore its possible for newer operators to be a bit more reckless and put dings and dents on the buses .  69th had a reputation that wasn't much better than 77th  but has improved since moving to 74th.  You also have to factor in the bad streets on the south side .  Then the passengers are also rough on the buses.

It's rare that 77th receives new buses and keeps them for 10 years or longer.   More often than not,  they would be traded out for older equipment.   Examples include the 3700s, 9600s, 4000s ( MAN Americanas) 6000s, and the 4300s.

Then there's maintenance.   Forest Glen has a stellar reputation for maintenance turning other garages' junk into great performance buses.  The maintenance at 77th has the opposite reputation.

This is the history of 77th garage.

Can't argue with you on that especially from the 70s up until 2014 and maybe It's a bias on my end traveling through 74th's/ 77th's territory my entire life and now working out of 77th I get details on the inner workings of how things really are. All in all 77th hasn't been the poster child for getting a boatload of new equipment since the #7900s back in 2014 which was where I was getting at and as far as the abuse the buses are going through it's apples to oranges in most cases depending on the road call assignments and work orders from those calls. The reputation is a bit skewed and I hope it changes in the next several years.

Getting back on topic though, K has received a few loans from C over the last few days I wonder what the reasoning is behind that. #1966, #1970, #2009, #8182. Now #1970 has returned back to C but the others remain at K for the time being.

1377 is moved to forest glen garage

Are you sure it was 1377? Maths22's tracker shows it in service this morning on the 63. CTA's own BusTracker confirms it. Looking at its tracking history shows that it hasn't been anywhere other than 74th for months.

is FG expecting more flyers?

FG didn't receive any new Flyers. If in fact FG had the bus in question this week, it was only a loan and has been returned to 74th.

Just saying dawg it's enought buses coming in for all the garages 7 can get the newest ones coming in it's just mind blowing how when FG get new buses they turn around & lose em this how I think it should have went FG 7 then whatever garages after that's how I think it should have went I think somebody over at C pulled strings to get ahead on new buses yeah we have some down buses but we was making it

Yea us at C got way too many buses cause it's other garages that needed it more that's why I said somebody over at C pulled strings to get ahead of the line

While I agree that Forest Glen shouldn't be shafted as far as having new equipment,  the question is how much new equipment do they need?  On weekends nearly half of their fleet is laid up in the garage.  So whatever old equipment they have can get a break  which is why CTA sends high mileage buses there because they won't rack up nearly as many miles.

Also @YoungBusLover pointed out that South Shops had nowhere to store the new arrivals so FG became the default storage garage since they had room.  There are still 200 more buses to be delivered to be divided between 77th, 74th. FG, and possibly NP.
