New Eldorados?

You need to check the number, because that bus is running North Shore routes. I physically saw it on 422 at 8:45 last night, and WebWatch now has it on 215.

That might be right. I saw it leaving Clark and Rogers at 10 a.m. heading westbound so maybe there is an interline between the 290 and 215.

No. Both use the Howard terminal, but 290 is strictly NW and 215 NS except on Sunday. I didn't have any reason to post it at the time, but the reason I found it so quickly on Webwatch was that it was also on 215 at about 8:30 a.m.

I was told that the entire 2015 order (6438 and up) had a problem of some sort that had to be warranty replaced before they could go into service. This would explain why 6481 and up are running while lower numbers are not - factory remediation of problem on later production. Remember, when CTA RTS's were coming in, 4500-4800's were in service before most 4400's were for the same reason.

At least we know they have eldos now up to #6483 as with Pace you never know where the order ends. I counted the #6000's in service and it does seem to be around 30 buses at nw. So nw could run just eldos if they ran a tight ship, once they got those buses up to #6478, but all the buses there are fairly new now so why not?

As far as the CTA RTS', I believe they delivered them backwards from #4875 versus forwards, cause the delivery was 77th, Kedzie, NP in that order. It might be similar to what you said as the latest built buses were the most updated from the first.

Here's the Orions that are still at NW for sure as of 9:20 am this morning on Webwatch:

6000 6003 6004 6010 6012 6016 6017 6020 6022 6024 6026 6031 6034 6036 6037 6045 6046 6111 6112 6115 6122 6123 6125 6129 6130 6141 6142 6143 6150 6152 6153 6154

Probably will be higher than this number as it was late in the morning.

Interesting to note that 6111, 6112, and 6115 were not sent back to SW and are still at NW.  That tells me that these buses will be on their way out once all of the El Dorados are running.  I'm actually surprised that 6115 is still in service. That bus in particular is in really bad shape.

6001 has been out (my just looking for old ones).

It is very unlikely that some of the higher numbers are retired, and you didn't find any of 6156-6161, which are 2004 deliveries.

Also, a disproportionate amount go out on school runs. Check about 3 p.m, especially on routes such as 240, 241, 250, and 423.

After all this time I just discovered that the ElDorados have wi-fi :o.

How much does it cost Pace to do this?

BusHunter had noted a couple of years ago that an Axess bus from West provided a connection just by passing by.

The wi-fi is mandated by state law, but I don't recall any mention of the cost to Pace as compared to Metra complaining. I also wonder what link Pace uses from the bus to the base station (the ITTC network?).

So what are you saying, that all new buses have to be wi-fi capable in the state? The CTA #7900's are not wi-fi capable, are they? You know the CTA goes on and on about providing internet wi-fi in the subway, how about making all the buses wi-fi or at least the new ones? Riders are on buses longer than trains, because they are typically slower and they would have more of an opportunity to use the service, the subways if coming from downtown would provide about 10 minutes of use. Bus commutes to the "L" can range up to 30-35 minutes.

BTW, I saw my first wrapped Axess on the #240 yesterday, I couldn't really see what it was for. Also #6482 was on the #423, so chalk up another bus for NS.

  • No, I'm saying that law is about as enforceable as any other when the legislature tries to micromanage transit.
  • It isn't wi-fi in the subway, but a cell phone connection. Outside the subway, cell phones can connect to towers.
  • 6482 at NS is nearly 2 weeks old.

The purpose for wi-fi is to ensure connectivity with dispatching, the radio, and the TransitMaster system. It just so happens to work with normal wi-fi capabilities on our devices (and it's been a thing for a long time!).

You have it confused, as BusHunter did.

The purpose of the Starcom21 Illinois Radio system is to connect to the Tansitmaster system. It still needs a wi-fi hub to provide wi-fi. You might have answered what is the link between the hub and the base station, but unless all Pace buses have wi-fi, not the source of the wi-fi signal.

Note, for instance, Chevrolet advertises a wi-fi hotspot, but you need an OnStar  subscription to use it.
