In college, I was on one of the rear cars of a State Street Subway train that was stopped halfway out of the Grand station due to a "sick passenger." Apparently, they spontaneously combusted because the next thing we knew there was smoke. That's when a guy pulled the cherry and several people (myself included) followed him off the train and up to the street. Every time I heard of a "sick passenger" I think of that time. jtrosario
Red Line 47th St Track condition: Red Line Experiencing Delays; Boarding change between 35th and Garfield Route(s): Red Line Length: Tuesday, December 19, 2017 - 10:31 AM to TBD Impact Level: Major Delays Affects Train Tracker prediction availability Full Description: Service on the Red Line is experiencing delays. Trains in both directions are operating on the same track between 35th and Garfield stations due to a track condition at 47th. Board all trains on the 95th-bound side of the platform at 47th station. Bus shuttle service is available to provide service through the affected area. We're working to restore normal service as quickly as possible. Allow extra travel time. Comment: Wow, its really messing up the whole Red, esp. Northbound. It would be nice if some of the SB could get turned around South of the Loop in an emergency like this to continue to service the rest of the Red line. Why not bypass 47th in both directions and have shuttle buses run between 35th and 47th and between Garfield and 47th. Also suggest the Green Line as an alternate. As far as turnbacks, running a limited amount of trains south of 35th would be political suicide. The North side keeps its high frequency while the South side sees limited and crowded service.
