Blue Line is currently suspended between Harlem and O'Hare (Forest Park bound) due to rail interference with an object (car tire). Shuttle buses will be provided between Harlem and Jefferson Park. Also route #56 and #88 are considered alternates. My two cents: #81W can also be an alternate if anybody is in Norridge, Harwood Heights, and/or near Cumberland Ave if heading to Jefferson Park.

Here's the news article. Radio said a car crash caused a tire to land on the tracks, which was hit by a train.

Green and Pink Line trains are under a service disruption tonight because of signal problems. All Green Line service between California and the Loop and all Pink Line service between the Polk and the Loop stop are suspended until they can get the signals fixed. The alert says the Green Line is only operating between Harlem and California and the Pink Line only between 54/Cermak and Polk. They say shuttle buses are out helping move passengers into downtown. With the Green Line it's not completely clear if there's service between the Loop and the 63rd Street branches with the disruption restricted to the Lake Street leg, or if service along the entire rest of the line east of California is affected. Part of the alert makes it seem if it's only on the Lake Street portion, and other parts of it sounds like the south side portion is affected too.

Green Line service has been temporarily suspended between California and the Loop due to signal problems.

As a result, trains are operating in two sections:

• between Harlem and California, and,
• between the Inner Loop and the 63rd street terminals,
only.

Rail Line(s) Affected: Pink

Level Of Service Interruption: Service Partially Suspended

Information: Pink Line service has been temporarily suspended between Polk and the Loop due to signal problems.

As a result, trains are operating approximately every 15 minutes (during normal service hours) in one section:

  • Between 54th/Cermak and Polk, and then to Racine (Blue Line), only, for connecting Blue Line service to/from downtown.

Using connecting Blue Line service:

  • For service to downtown from Pink Line stations between 54th/Cermak and Polk: take a Pink Line train toward the Loop and stay on board until the train reaches Racine on the Blue Line, where you can transfer to continuing Blue Line service into downtown.
  • For service from downtown to Pink Line stations between Polk and 54th/Cermak, take a Blue Line train toward Forest Park to Racine and transfer to a Pink Line train toward 54th/Cermak.

Alternate Service: Consider using #7, #20, #60 and #126 buses, or the Blue Line(Forest Park Branch), as alternatives to Pink Line service.

Service Interruption Update(3/31/16 4:09a):

Currently, Pink Line trains are running only between 54th/Cermak and Racine on the Blue Line.

Pink Line trains will make all stops between 54th/Cermak and Polk, then continue to the Racine Blue Line stop. Customers can transfer to Blue Line trains to continue the trip to the Loop.

Customers traveling from the Loop can take the Blue Line to Racine, then switch to 54th/Cermak-bound Pink Line trains.

Pink Line trains will run approximately every 15 minutes. Customers are advised to allow additional travel time. Pink Line trains are also expected to see crowding.

Service on other rail lines is not expected to be impacted, though the Blue Line may see some delays during the AM and PM rush hours.

Pink Line riders traveling between Polk and the Loop are encouraged to consider the #157 Streeterville/Taylor bus as an alternative. CTA will add additional service during the rush hours.

The service change is the result of damage to a signal relay house near Ashland/Lake. No timetable has been set for restoration of regular Pink Line service.

Ha ha you quoted me after CTA went back and corrected the alert. When they originally posted the alert shortly after 7PM last night, they only put up between Harlem and California only for Green and between 54/Cermak and Polk for Pink with no mention of the south side main portion of the Green. At any rate, as Andre mentioned the Green Line is restored. However, the Pink is apparently still disrupted this late portion of the morning with the alternates given as sw was able to put together from the most recent alert about the Pink's continued partial disruption.

Someone on the unofficial Chicago L Facebook group took pictures from a Pink Line train on the unused connector.

I'm new here, can you please post a link to those pictures. I rode many of Douglas Milwaukee trains back in the day. Thanks in advance.

Let's see if this works...

Edit: Unfortunately I can't share the group of photos since I can't find the link for that. I thought the photo above illustrates the service change the best.
