Just wondering - are 2600s and 3200s ever mixed in a train? Seems like Brown would have a hard time getting even 3 or 4 pure 2600 trains out given how few they have.

yea only brown line has em mixed up sometimes you’ll catch a all 2600’s brown line 8 car set

Yeah I don’t know what it is with blue line yards but they’ve made it clear on Fb that they for whatever reason don’t wanna mix fleets for the moment although I’m sure it has happened at some point.

I don’t think the Blue Line wants them running in mixed consists that can be possible if CTA does want to do that, just like when the #2200s were in service on the Blue Line, they always needed to couple #2600s with them so that some cars can be accessible to those who are in wheel chairs because the blinker doors the #2200s have aren’t wheelchair accessible. Since the Brown Line have their cars coupled together in most trains, I like them separate how it is know on the Blue and trains look better with just all #2600s and trains being all #3200s tbh. Since the Orange Line is going into 3 years without the #3200s. That leaves the Brown Line the only line to mix the #2600s and #3200s in consists in the same train.

Brown line mixes the fleets.  I attribute that to the space constraints at Kimball Yard.  It would be very hard to keep those series separated.   Remember the Brown line ran 4 car consists off peak prepandemic .

The Blue Line runs separated consists.  They pretty much run eight car consists so it's easier to keep them separated.   I was honestly surprised that they didn't run mixed consists considering that they ran 2200s and 2609s together.   I understand that was necessary for ADA compliance,  but they have experience mixing consists of different series.

How many non roof board 3200s are still in the Brown line?

I am uncertain where to post this. A moderator may move to a more appropriate thread. I was conducting business at City Hall an hour ago. I then awaited a Blue Line "L" train back northwest at the Clark/Lake station. Before my train arrived, a Forest Park train, run #220, pulled in on the Forest Park-bound track. It had a 3200-series train on the point. But then I noticed the other six cars of the consist were 2600-series trains. I know this occurs on the Brown Line, but this is the first time I have seen it on the Blue Line. Could someone else please confirm?

I'm surprised it took so long.  I didn't understand why they wanted to keep the 2 series Separated even though they are compatible.  Perhaps the Blue and the Brown are preparing for 7000s and it would be too difficult trying to run 3 different sets of consists.

UPDATE;  Looking at an 8 car consist arriving at Forest Park.   The first 4 cars are 3200s, the next 2 are 2600s and the last 2 are 3200 (3365 3366).

7000s are for sure only operating from Racine to Jeff Pk or O'hare, cause the way the congress branch feels, I could take the 7 and it'd be a faster ride

Yeah they are still mixing them. When I was at Jackson Monday there was still 8 car consists of all #2600s and all #3200s, I was hoping to record a train with both series mixed but perhaps it was brutally cold so I couldn’t wait any longer lol. I’ll give it a few more months then we could start seeing both series mixed in all trains.

Not necessarily.   If their weight is similar to the 3200s, there's really no reason to run them partially.   If weight was an issue, then i would say poor track condition would prohibit 7000s  from being on the Forest Park branch.

I thought the 7000s were supposed to be the heaviest cars to date. Your latter point is why I said that; the track conditions are horrible

Well I thought of that too, I guess seating arrangements play another factor on how much cars weigh depending on the type of seating arrangement layout is set, I could be wrong on this tho.
