Yeah it's getting so bad they need to run these trains through some kind of paint stripper when they wash them, but it would probably be too harsh on the number decals and dull the finish. I sure hope they store most of the Purple line cars at Linden, but they may not have a problem with those at Howard, most are stored close to the shop on the cleaner side of the yard. The cars are so quiet, the blind don't know where the doors are. The first cars that have this are #5157-60, #5329-30 AFAIK.Starting late 12/13, #5000 cars have started to be retrofitted with LED interior lighting.So far Green/Pink line cars #5001- #5146 have been done, finishing on March 9th, 2014.Starting Mar 9th, 2014, the Red/Yellow line line cars have began to be retrofitted with LED lightsThose cars #5147- #5368 were completed at the end of May 2014.All #5000 cars #5369-70 and higher are coming with the LED lightingfactory installed, so they don't need retrofitting.Pink line #5000 service goes from 4 car operation to 6 car operation starting the week of 12/12/11, due to repeated dead spotting at tower 18. I noticed that the doors with the new chimes also "slam" closed as opposed to the older ones that slow down before closing all the way. edit: On an unrelated note, I was just on 5011-12 on the pink line and they had LED lighting with frosted light covers. As BusHunter has said, the Green and Pink Line 5000s are in good condition, but not the Red Line 5000s. Yeah, I'm sure the elevated yards at Harlem and Ashland aren't easy to get up into. As for the 2600s, I'm just going on the idea that they are dwindling. Hopefully someone on here has more details, but I'm just watching Bombardier pump out more 5000s in Plattsburgh. I have heard that the initial plan was to use all 5000s on the Red Line on weekends and such, and use the 2400s (back when they were on the Red Line) and 2600s sparingly. If the math works, out of 388 reported above, about 150 are needed for the Pink and Green Lines, but the full complement of cars assigned to the Red Line is supposed to be 380, so one would guess that 142 out of 380 would still have to be 2600s (or 37%). Then the question is how many of the cars assigned to the Red Line are out at a given time. The other thing to check is how many are on 800 series runs (Howard) or 900 series runs (98th) as 98th didn't start getting stocked until the Red Line South project ended. The way things are going, I don't think the modifications to the specifications depend on options, but just that the specs are changed forward when some advance appears. jajuan Posted February 22, 2014 Report Share Posted February 22, 2014 Yeah, I'm sure the elevated yards at Harlem and Ashland aren't easy to get up into. As for the 2600s, I'm just going on the idea that they are dwindling. Hopefully someone on here has more details, but I'm just watching Bombardier pump out more 5000s in Plattsburgh. I have heard that the initial plan was to use all 5000s on the Red Line on weekends and such, and use the 2400s (back when they were on the Red Line) and 2600s sparingly. Howard Yard is also elevated. That's probably why some members have questioned the state of security up at Howard, which in a way is ironic in that Ashland yard sits in Englewood an area that's been seen as worse than than the Rogers Park area which is where Howard Yard sits. That's probably why some members have questioned the state of security up at Howard, which in a way is ironic in that Ashland yard sits in Englewood an area that's been seen as worse than than the Rogers Park area which is where Howard Yard sits.
