briman94
Just a blue light, but still, good eye. Apparently "blue light special" is what the drivers call it when they get a blue light. That's what I've heard at least.

I know, I've just always heard that condition referred to as a 'blue-light special' as a joke.
briman94
No wonder why my train was delayed for almost 10 minutes last night before I took those pics. Odd, they don't usually delay the train because of one car being cut out. I was on a 5000 a while back that ran just fine; it just smelled like "magic smoke" and fire for a while. Huh, I thought it referred to getting multiple blue lights, according to ChicagoL.org. Different definitions every day!

I might be mistaken, but a bell might go off when a blue light activates, or it might be when the white light comes on. Sure sounds like it would be delay worthy to reset. Note that if Kevin O has any inside info, the Orange Line isn't getting any. Note also that if prior assumptions are correct, there shouldn't still be 126 2400s on the roster after receiving ~420 5000s; there were only about 330 2200s and 2400s to replace. geneking7320
On the Red Line tonight the car I was on was very cold [i think the AC was on ]. Aren't these cars too new to have these problems?
briman94
I rode the green line from Harlem to the loop tonight and when we left Clark/Lake, the guy said "State and Lake is next. Doors open on the right at State and Lake. Transfer to blahblahblah at State and Lake," but the scrolling text said "Doors open on the right at State and Clark." Do they not proofread their transcriptions?

Yeah but there are also not enough #3200's to equip the Orange and Brown lines. What about the 70 or so spares that they use for the Orange/Brown interline? I don't think Howard yard could handle another 300 #5000 cars. First and Fastest did report in it's Winter 2013 issue that the #2400's are going through they're last winter so if that's so. They may be replacing cars one for one from now on, if you figure 16 cars retired a month, maybe more than that. Also don't forget they are retiring #2600's so if they didn't retire those the #2400 total would be closer to 100 left. I figured up myself what they would be left with if they with if they replaced what's left one for one and it comes to about 324 #2600's. Now I know you are saying 400, but can the yard then manage another 76 spares, to achieve that?

Now I know you are saying 400, but can the yard then manage another 76 spares, to achieve that? If all the numbers presented recently are correct, they have ~1360 cars on the active roster stored somewhere. So where are they now? 80 on some dead track in Skokie, plus all of the junk and long term holds? I am assuming 60 more at Midway to get to the other 80, and about 20 more wrecks than previously reported.

BusHunter
It went to the yard. I got some pictures but I don't know how good they are. I could've took them on a better angle. Btw busjack I asked somebody what does the red and purple lines use for service and they said 296 for red and 84 for purple so all the rest are spares. The purple line #5000 is making a second trip to the loop today presently sb at howard. Damn there are two purple line #5000 consists in service today. One with #5407-08 as the last two cars in the consist just passed us around Jarvis

BusHunter
Here's #509 (#5411) from Belmont SB. The time I took this was about 6:10 PM. The other #5000 consist was probably close to Linden by then.

briman94
Great shot, BusHunter!!! The sign there looks more brown or red than purple. The reason I missed the SB purple at Howard the other day was because from afar it looked like a red line turning around on the horseshoe track until it got closer. I like how Kevin O caught how those seats are uncomfortable not just from not being able to see your destination approaching without feeling as if you're staring in someone's face but also in how regardless of your size you're not able to find a comfortable spot in those seats when other passengers are seated next to you. I'm a somewhat slim guys and still feel as if I'm pack into the seat like a sardine even when other passengers are on either of me even if they too aren't anywhere close to qualifying for the weigh in of a sumo wrestling match.
