5000-series - Updates

Today I took a picture of some 5000s at Harlem on the Green Line. After looking at the picture, I noticed that one car's LED sign was green (Ashland/63rd or Harlem), and one was black with white lettering. Since cars usually uncouple and couple there on a regular basis, I was assuming that this was the case, so they could possibly have different signs. I was wrong. Not only were the two cars in the same train set, but they were in the same married pair.

The weird cars are on the left.

I wonder if having two active cabs would do something like that. They had the second car's cab active for coupling, and the front cab active for the route it was about to take.

I hope you guys are happy with that new train smell. :D

The Green Line cars don't really smell like anything on a good day. They also seem to be noisier at Tower 18 than when first delivered. The LED lights are cool, but I was on one car where something or someone knocked the lights loose in the flat light fixtures over the door. The lights didn't pop out or anything, but they looked like they were pressed against the cover over the light fixture. You could almost see the individual LEDs.

#5219-20, #5449-50, and #5451-52 are on the Purple Line right now.

That's a first, for sure! Didn't realize any had begun to be assigned to the Purple Line yet, though OTOH I thought it was just a matter of time before that occurred. Is that really true, that all 2400s including the lower numbered work motor railcars with red/white/red striping, are all gone from Purple service as of this week?

There were reports of 2 trains on the Purple Line a couple of weeks ago.
