It was 1870, but the question is whether that was one or four contracts (9600-9799 were actually ordered by the RTA on a CTA spec.), while the 1000s were all on one contract that included 4 options. Hence, the 1000s were probably the largest solicitation, and thus order.

According to the list of retired or OOS buses @YoungBusLover put out, I'd say 1940 is retired, unless the CTA is secretly piloting new bike racks and 1940 is their guinea pig

#1834 returned to service yesterday with some visible work done on it, #1846 was pushed out of the boneyard by a slug unit to the shops area so I guess work will be done on it. #1408, #1505, #1526, #2010 and #4137 were all declared tows yesterday. The amount of tows called for yesterday was quite interesting to say the very least.

#1834 been in service…….are u sure it’s that one?

Same now we just have to wait for a bid for the #1000s, #803 appears to be the only one left in the boneyard visible I think #905 is still deep in the boneyard.

The 1630-2029 rust issue has gotten bad enough that 8350s will be assigned to North Park in the near future. 8596 is assigned to North Park right now for driver training (8596 was previously assigned to Kedzie (this is in the 8350s thread)).

Isn't there any way of repairing the frames to give them addition time in service?  Welding in new bracing, for example.

There may be a way, but aside whether it is physically possible to weld a sister to rust and assure its structural integrity, 630 are scheduled for retirement and their  replacements are here or on the way in the next maybe 10 months, so it makes no economic sense, especially if shops are short staffed. Except for maybe a couple of Legacy Fleet vehicles, the CTA doesn't run a restomod show for MotorTrend TV.

Rust is hard to maintain let alone band aid once it reaches the beam of the frame. The overall structural integrity of the bus is soon to be compromised deeming it unworthy to even repair. Now it's caught early enough they can attempt to patch it up. However, Rush is still rustvand it will eventually showcase its true power.
