Common shaming tactics I hear all the time & it's just not gonna work on me. I have fools getting in my personal business from time to time. Equal opportunity is the law! Sad that some people believe the rules are made to be broken.

I'll just say this, Work at the 79th street red line station and try and stop fare-evaders you will be singing a different tune within 10 minutes of being there on the job. I understand your concern as a paying customer but until you're put in the shoes of any CTA employee just relax.

People just don't understand you might be able to do that downtown but in the real Chicago you can't people just need to learn to mind the business that pays them & get their money & go home also they don't get paid to chase down fair evaders

He must think were in Toyoko, Japan or maybe even Paris, France where they might get on the customers over there for it but in America its just not enough resources to combat that on a consistent basis.

Have any of you seen  Bazaar things while doing your run? Last night while on the 50 I seen 3 guys taking I guess the wheel caps off of 9 police cars. They started while I was pulling up to the light and by time the light changed they was done and gone these where police cars that they ripped off lbvs people have big balls these days

Surprised to hear that people bother with wheel caps any more.  Cat converters are where the money is at.  Some of the converter crews got it down to a science and can steal from a whole row of cars in minutes.

The feds are wising up to the cat converters, busting the warehouses. Try this Google search. Today's Sun-TImes also has an article on how the FBI tracks carjackers, in this case, a group from around Garfield Park that was working in the area around Rockwell and Montrose, including a 7-11 they robbed putting a tracker in a wad of dollar bills. Surprisingly, carjacking is a federal crime, so these guys are facing hard time. So, wheels might be the only things that can be fenced.

They aren't taking the wheels it's like what appears to be chrome caps & the plastic big hubcaps off the cars

Then they're stupid. Most wheels these days don't have hubcaps, and plastic and metallized plastic aren't worth anything.

Naw really bro if you sell them by the set you can make a decent but off them the centercaps are about 100 a set the hubs 200-225 a set but the 2020+ cars the hubcaps are about 300 a set and the centercaps 120 a set you get enough you making a good buck

I used to live right by 79th Red Line Station. I don't have to be in any CTA employee's shoes to talk about this.

Whoever's gonna talk like that obviously doesn't believe in paying fares. I was tailgated, hence me addressing this issue.

I believe in paying fares because I pay my fare.  A lot of people do.  Unfortunately there are a lot of people that don't care about anyone or anything

They evade fares, smoke on trains and the list goes on

If anyone says anything to them these people are apt to attack them  shoot, or stab them.  It's not like 20, 30 years ago when these people just ran away

Fare evasion doesn't really happen much on Metra

Rhe chances of getting caught are greater and ots easier to get suburban or RR police to quickly respond.   Yet there have been isolated incidents in which Metra conductors have been attacked.   Other than Metra Electric,  most Metra lines don't serve high crime areas.

Where you are from. Maybe the police serve and protect you

Where I am from. The police only come and react AFTER something has already happened.   That's why CTA and Pace employees are told not to confront or argue with passengers over fares.  My dad use to say it's better to be wrong and live than to be dead right.

Yes, I completely agree! Obviously I don’t think highly of these people jumping the turnstiles or going through the gates fare free, but like you said, there’s a lot of people out there who don’t care unfortunately.

I'm a bit fustrated as to how CTA employees at train stations can allow fare evasion/tailgating after a customer pays his/her fare.

Fare-dodgers also can walk right behind a passenger with a valid pass before closing of some types of ticket barrier gates (this is called tailgating).

Your initial complaint was toward CTA employees aka the CA's quote on quote not doing there job when it comes to fare evaders. So a few employees currently working in the company tell you the honest truth about why that is and now you're implying that we don't believe in paying fares. You must be living under a rock to assume that, unless you want to confront the fare evaders yourself with little to no help I suggest you turn a blind eye to it because the CTA can only do so much with the resources it has available to it.  I'm an operator of 4 years now out of 77th and the one thing I remember during training was do not argue over $2.50 because you'll get charged for whatever happens after that especially if you're going to play the cat and mouse game with said fare evading customers. You state to them the fare is $2.50 which they already know and after that you continue in service. . I'm sure the CA's are trained the same way in some aspects, we all value safety but using common sense in certain scenarios can be the difference between life and death. Does that make it right? No.  However, that's just the way it is right now. Accept it and leave it at that because the few employees that try to be fare warriors normally get the short end of the stick. "If you see something say something." Yeah I'll say something when my life is in danger jack.

If you were tailgated, and you didn't push the person back out, you're in no position to post the image. If you feel a need to do something about it, get a job as a rent a cop.
