Sad.   Youth think that's fun and funny.  Glad no one was hurt.

It wouldn't bother me if FG and NP had all the 7900s.   Seems like new equipment on the south side is a risky proposition.  If the 7000 duties cars never see the south side will be fine with me and may last longer.

But that goes back to the 4400s. The south side always complains that it is discriminated against, to the extent that 77 got 4400s that were later moved to NP. Of course, 69/74 was always discriminated against, until A closed.

Being raised on the South Side,  I appreciated the rare times we had new equipment,  especially when I lived in Englewood.   But it was also hurtful to see graffiti, gang symbols in ink, spray paint, or etched on an otherwise new bus.  You can only imagine how the old ones looked.  77th has a history of getting new equipment.  Past history has shown that 77th quickly gave up those new buses, but now are more likely to keep them.

Thus the danger of running new equipment on owl routes.

Probably because it was next to the golden child 77th was why 69/74 was on the short end of the stick. Someone has to lose,  but lately 74th has been doing pretty good they can't argue. They picked up extra novas from fg, so they were out rivaling 77th. 77th could complain its lost some low 7900s to a couple garages and hasn't gained anything plus it is the only Nova garage that only ever had just 100 buses. I think cta is trying to be fair whether they want to or not. I just don't like the press releases of the mayor saying there is emphasis on the south and west sides of the city. I was reading a press release about street paving and they said that on that release. Like the north side don't have bad streets. I mean we are all paying taxes so we should all get a fair shake.

Certainly we should all get a fair shake, butwhat is fair?  If the North side pays a higher portion of the total taxes, wouldn't it be fair if they received more of cit services?  If the bulk of CTA ridership is on the south end west sides, should they have more newer equipment?

CTA can't just add service or run the new buses in the neighborhoods that pay more taxes. There are federal guidelines in place about doing such things and violating them can be serious and impact federal funds.

My point was't what CTA should or shouldn't do,  but what @BusHunterconstitution as fair.  The City sends out press releases saying they will prioritize the South and West sides (not CTA).

Well that falls more on the city than CTA, I think we all can agree that after the first batch of #7900s series were delivered, nobody expected each garage outside of K,NP and 103rd to receive them. Yeah FG got the short end of the stick in the beginning but they later benefited after 2016. The garage with the oldest fleet average age is going to see #8350s cough cough 103rd.....

This is true, but 77th is the golden child. Someone will end up with #7900's and #8350's. (77th maybe) all but one garage should get #8350's if they do get all 600. I would divide the #7900's 6 ways and supplement the #8350's but the one garage would be left in the lurch. They should have ordered 700 but they will probably have 100 electrics maybe soon so it could offset the orphan garage.

This happened last night during the green line shuttle, #7945 and #7986 both got there windows shattered by youth throwing debris at the buses as they passed by around 1 am around 60th and King Drive. As soon as I left the garage after my run I saw #7945 with a supervisor following behind enter the vault I couldn't believe two buses got hit back to back like that. Good thing I didn't pick king drive for the summer. ????

I remember when all CTA property was posted "PRIVATE PROPERTY--NO TRESPASSING." Again, I don't know how that applies to employees who drive through garages at which they don't work.

It wasn't a issue at NP when I drove there but then again I had my badge just incase wel the other day I didn't

I guess the question is whether CTA employees are allowed to take pictures and video of CTA equipment and movements on CTA property?  CTA has been known to harass people who were taking pictures or shooting video at CTA garages.  Even though the people were on the sidewalk outside the fenced area ( which the sidewalk is a public way), CTA didn’t want video taken of its property.   Greyhound is very strict about this at their bus terminals.  But those are private citizens.  Would CTA discipline an employee found taking video of its facilities?

Yes. The transit authorities say they have to do a Title VI analysis on virtually everything they do,

Based on what I've done so far and what I've seen others do with in the company as long as your face let alone name isn't attached to the photo your taking you'll be ok. I normally get most of my photos off duty on weekends with my I.D still on hand but hardly anyone bothers me because I work at 77th and they know who I am. Now as far as the other garages are concerned outside of 74th & FG I don't go inside the premises unless I'm scheduled to be there. All in all CTA is watching regardless of who you are and even on here and other social media outlets as long as you're not doing anything malicious that could damage the integrity of the agency you'll be ok.

Besides if that was the case how could we ever go to Skokie Shops for an open house if we can't take pictures. Taking pictures can be frowned upon if you are on cta property but I don't believe those rules apply if you are a cta employee. Certain exceptions do apply like above.

  1. The magic words are "open house." If you were invited to an open house, you were not a trespasser. I bet you aren't allowed to walk in today to look for a 7000. Whoever Chicagoland Transit is didn't; while he had some advance word that 7013 and 7014 were arriving, he only took video from Oakton St. and a Yellow Line train.
  2. If @artthouwill is correct, you aren't a CTA employee and thus your belief is irrelevant. I'm sure that if @Shannoncvpigets caught the next time, you won't be his union steward. Note that I only asked; I didn't say anything unsubstantiated.
  3. Note the sign on the gatehouse:

Chicago Transit Authority Transit Operations

General Bulletin

TO: All Concerned

SUBJECT: Persons Photographing and Videotaping on CTA Property

EFFECTIVE: IMMEDIATELY

All CTA employees must be alert for individuals photographing or videotaping on CTA property. Using your power of observation you must determine if the person taking photos or videotaping is one of the following:
   an individual taking typical tourist and/or personal photographs or video (with a small hand-held device);
a professional or commercial photographer and/or videographer/cameraman; or,
a suspicious person who may be surveying CTA property or locations for ulterior purposes.
So that we can be diligent in our duties, yet sensitive to our customers taking ordinary everyday pictures and/or video, we are distributing our policy on photography and/or videotaping on CTA property.

CTA POLICY ON PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOTAPING ON AUTHORITY PROPERTY

Photography and/or videotaping on our system can be divided into three separate categories: Personal/Tourist, Professional/Commercial, or Suspicious/Surveillance. Employees must be knowledgeable of the following categories/descriptions, and adhere to the actions given for each.
PERSONAL/TOURIST

Someone who is taking standard pictures or film footage that is inconsequential and does not pose a threat or distraction to others. This may be a typical tourist photographing a companion or point of interest, or a transit enthusiast filming trains and/or buses as a hobby.
EMPLOYEE ACTION: None. Continue to observe the individual(s)to assure they are not compromising anyone's safety (including their own), are compliant with all CTA rules, and are not interfering with customer flow (blocking stairs, doors etc.).

PROFESSIONAL/COMMERCIAL
Someone who possesses equipment such as lighting, tripods, cables, and may have a support team or professional talent. Professional/commercial photographers often remain at one location for an extended period of time.
EMPLOYEE ACTION: Professional photographers and organized production companies are prohibited from taking pictures or filming on CTA property, unless they are escorted by appropriate CTA personnel or possess official permission authorizing access. Using tact and professionalism, politely approach individuals in this category and request identification and permission to shoot photographs or film on CTA property. Notify the Control Center if necessary, and follow instructions.
NOTE: Kindly inform individuals in this category that they can visit the CTA web site at http://www.transitchicago.com to review our Photo & Video Policy.

SUSPICIOUS/SURVEILLANCE
Someone who is filming or photographing more than the typical "tourist and/or personal" photo or video. This person may be taking pictures or filming security cameras, guard locations, or any unusual or vulnerable areas on or around CTA property (i.e. structural components, tracks/switches, and bridges/portals). They may also have an unusual or prolonged interest in security measures or personnel; entry points and access controls; or perimeter barriers such as fences or walls.
EMPLOYEE ACTION: (redacted cause of safety sensitive information)

lf you have any questions regarding the contents of this bulletin, contact a supervisor, instructor, controller or manager.

Thanks.

I quoted pertinent parts. I assume that PERSONAL/TOURIST applies to members of the public in public;y accessible areas, such as streets, train platforms, etc. Note that it says "are compliant with all CTA rules," which seems to again raise the question of trespassing (which I implied by the picture of the sign saying that all employees and visitors must sign in, now putting emphasis on "employees."

The question raised by SUSPICIOUS/SURVEILLANCE in this context is whether a driver who does not work in the garages at issue, including one that is enclosed, acts suspiciously or in accordance with CTA rules, in driving through, taking dash cam video, and posting it online. I can't answer that question, but do note that @YoungBusLoversaid CTA was watching here and on social media.

Yeah best believe they're watching and are already aware of who shannon is after he made the local news last year for his youtube channel after another youtuber reported it to CBS2. It was more related to his content that didn't involve CTA though. All in all I've learned during my short tenure with the company that you have to be vigilant of your surroundings whether you're on duty or not while on the property throughout the system.
