I just waited 40 minutes at Lunt/Clark for a SB Clark bus.  Five NB Clarks went past, plus two Not In Service artics also went north.  There were three ghost buses shown on the Ventra app while I was waiting.

That reroute btw is a clockwise loop around Jarvis, Ridge, Howard and Clark until each route reaches the point where they would be on their regular route in the opposite direction. In the case of the 290, that of course would presumably be counterclockwise on those streets as I saw supervisors directing those buses to turn north on Clark from Jarvis.

“People’s Gas” hit a gas line at the entrance of the terminal so it was blocked off for bout a hour and half to 2hrs

That must have been the other truck that I spotted just ahead of the fire trucks. I was only able to see the rear, so it was hard to tell at the time who it belonged to.

I lifted the following from a portion of an ABC7 article on the Air and Water Show, in the part of the story mentioning transit options to the show. Who can spot what's wrong? It definitely shows that the local media can still be rather lax in getting updated info from our local transit agencies. ?

 

HOW TO GET THERE: The city encourages using CTA to attend the air and water show. You can use the CTA Trip Planner to get your best route. The CTA 72 bus that normally stops at North Avenue beach will be rerouted and only go as far as North and Clark.

Supplemental bus service will be provided on the 72 North Avenue and 151 Sheridan bus routes. Buses on the 145 Wilson/Michigan Express, 146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and 147 Outer Drive routes also have stops near the activities. You can also take the 22 Clark or 36 Broadway buses to North and Clark, within walking distance of North Avenue beach.

Thanks. For some strange reason, my brain was thinking Friday and Saturday instead of Saturday and Sunday up until I heard several fast moving jets overhead up above my place this morning.?

Rather than quote the entireist, there needs to be some corrections. 

The 38 Indians was combined with the 1 Drexel/Hyde Park in September of q981 becoming the 1 Indiana

/Hyde Park 

The 45 Ashland/Archer wasn't eliminated until after the opening of the Orange Line.   It's eliminated coincincided with the elimination of the 42 Halsted/Archer,  61 Archer/Franklin Express, 62 Archer Express,  and the truncation of the 44 Wallace/ Racine.

90N was North Harlem,  not Austin

Several technicalities missing. When the Dan Ryan L opened, both 6 and 6X were eliminated, and 55 was extended from Morgan to Cicero/Archer (St. Louis short). I believe that at the same time 111AX was also eliminated, and 111A was routed to 95th-Dan Ryan.

Thanks for your comments. Yes 38 Indiana was combined with 1 on 9/19/1981. From 2/16/83 38 Indiana resumed day & early eve shuttle service via Michigan-63rd-Indiana-51st-Michigan loop which was discontinued, without replacement, 1/23/88.

45 and Austin were typos. You are correct 45 was discontinued 11/5/1993. The 61 and 62E lasted a little longer until 7/1/1994.

Sorry missed 6 from the list, you are correct.

Yes if a route was renumbered or rerouted I did not list them. My Word document with most of the changes listed is 147 pages long.

The data came from Chicago Transit and Railfan, and Andris Kristopans in Motor Bus Society magazines and on the IRM cta pages ( http://irm-cta.org/route_descriptions.html )

Wow never realized Jeffery was so frequent back in the day. Just looked through the old timetables on this site

Yes it was a high frequency route before artics ever came.  The 6 was a single ride to downtown for those who lived in Jeffery Manor, Pill Hill, and South Shore.   It also had a very high ridership in Hyde Park.   As slow as the travel time was, it was quicker than taking the Jackson Park L.  

To alleviate crowding,  the CTA introduced the 14 in January of 1982.  The Jeffery Blvd rides flocked to the 14.  Initially the frequency on the 6 went down but that didn't solve the overcrowding problem in Hyde Park.   There were trips on the 6 that started from the MSI before rge the 14 came along, but more of those trips had to be added.  The 6 was still a popular route that connected Jeffery with Kenwood Academy

From the “More bus moves” topic i couldn’t find anywhere else but here:

last night #1324 was used a emergency fill in on the J14 and especially wit these loans 103rd has leads me to wonder how down bad 103rd really is? considering they got a semi load of 8450’s and got rid of some % of their flyers, also #8405 was used as a fill on the J14 yesterday for the PM rush. Both buses are back at their perspective garages.

Our system map technically have one already. Nothing runs at headways greater than 30 min outside of a few exceptions which are notated on under the route details

In that scenario you presented operators working out of 77th will sometimes get pulled from there runs to do a quick tripper on routes out of 103rd that have top priority over some other routes.The J14 and 192 being two I can think of off the top of my head. Manpower out of 103rd is something I've harped on about over the last several months and whatever they have going on over there is effecting everyone during all hours of the day.

I've mentioned before that 103rd and 77th had the most severe driver shortages. So it is crazy that 77th has to pull drivers from its own routes to cover for 103rd when 77th can't really afford to do so.  I get it in that 77th is the closest garage to 103rd  and 77th used to operate the 14 and the 6 and also supplement 103rd on those routes.  Does 74th in turn provide help with 77th?  We know 77th runs a couple of buses on the BL Shuttle  also  though that is majority K P  and F.

On the contrary we are currently at the max as far as operators are concerned at 77th, There is hardly any overtime to obtain these days with the influx of rookies we've gotten over the spring and summer months this year. Generally when we get pulled for runs to help out of 103rd they generally take a run off the #2 on the south end to do a tripper on the #192, if it's northern end sometimes an operator working the #1, #3 or #4 may get pulled to cover the #J14 or #192. It all depends on if the operator knows the route along with being able to get back in place once completing the assignment. I've rarely seen 74th operators run on our routes unless it's a dire situation. I'm still in utter disbelief that were helping out with the BL Shuttles to save on the mileage with these #8500s, I get that they're new but sheesh release them all for revenue service for god sake.
