I had to drive 1 so I could get that bus under my belt as far as buses I drove lol. 103rd used to get them from 74th at the time cause we were short on buses and they would send about 3 or 4 of them over then get them back after rush hour. Now I’m back at 74th and ironically they have old Novas sitting at the garage too. It’s about a good 5 of them too just chillin in the back. Yea I seen those in the back I drove up & took a pic of the shield & I had asked to sign 1 out when I came back for my evening rush
patman119
Looks like North Park got some of their buses back they gave to Forest Glen. They got back 1706, 1725, 1870, 1872, and 1930. They also gained 1345-1349.

Not all of them were from North Park when they went to Forest Glen in the first place. 1725, 1731 and 1733 came from Kedzie. These same three buses all went to North Park over this past weekend. And not all of the North Park buses that Forest Glen took were returned to North Park. 1764, 1769 and 1790 all remain at Forest Glen at the moment. And yes, Kedzie did officially get assigned about five of the returning 6400-series Novas. 6710, 6730, 6772 and 6862 are four of those that are known to have migrated there. Javi78
Why is it taking so long to retire the 6400s? It’s taking six years to replace 484 buses, when it only took 3 or 4 years to retire 3 and a half bus series which were the 4400s, 5300s, 5800s and 6000s. If CTA is having this hard of a time retiring 484 buses, it’s going to be a disaster retiring the 1000s, that’s going to be a 20 year retirement lol. What is CTA doing, I’ve always hated the 6400s the entire time they’ve been in service, they sound like garbage trucks and they look weird. Why does a bus sound like a garbage truck lol? What would CTA do in the worst case scenario of the 6400s just suddenly stop working or they have a failure to where they can’t operate anymore. Basically a Nabi situation where buses were no longer operational and CTA had no other choice but to work with what they being short on fleet, how would CTA respond when they can’t get new buses right away? Would they have to stretch garages thin to have buses for routes. What would happen if CTA was really short 70 buses?

Bro it took em 6 years to retire all 3 of those series also starting in 04 with the buses that didn't get a rehab they was knocked off & the rest they was letting kill themselves the same way they are doing with the novas since they didnt get a rehab because just like the 44's 53' 58'& the 60's they got enough buses thats knocked off to rip parts from to keep the others running now if they blow a motor or trans then they are dont with or cost a whole body to fix certain parts which I believe was the case with the rest of the 64'65' & 6675 & under buses that was still running until last year cuz most of em then turned into training buses like 6472 it needed suspension work the last time I seen it in service was on the 85 & it was on a gangsta lean hard af then it left got fixed to look brand new now it's a Community Bus that bounces from 7 to C

Well seeing as you're not a novice enthusiast on how transit systems work, I'll give you a brief rundown as to why. The 5300s retirements started as late as 2003 and the last bus was retired in January of 2009. So there's your six years right there, the 5800s and 6000s were rehabbed around 2003-2004 along with some getting rehabbed years after towards the end of there tenure, they honestly should of lasted until 2012-2013 if not for budget cuts. CTA has always used there equipment until the wheels literally fall off it. In my honest opinion the 6400s have held up better than any other series of bus I've been on, the 4400s come to mind as a close second. The 6400s are in better shape than some of the current 7900s and that's just a fact. Also like in past retirements the smaller the ratio of buses the better they are to maintain in good running condition. Now in regards to the engine setup the Cummins ISC is an older engine model and although it is quite loud it's not as loud as past engines such as the 6v92,8v71 or even that dreaded M11. The CTA has a surplus of buses anyway and they wont get hindered by the unfroutuate event that the last small block of 6400s go OOS when they have 4300s that go unused along with many 1000s. They're doing fine and until further notice the 6400s will last as long as the CTA wants to maintain them or until the proterras get activated into service. The CTA has a surplus of buses anyway and they wont get hindered by the unfroutuate event that the last small block of 6400s go OOS when have 4300s that go unused along with many 1000s. They're doing fine and until further notice the 6400s will last as long as the CTA wants to maintain them or until the proterra get activated into service. I just said the samething bro plus when I got a bunch of buses already retired they became parts buses to the ones still in service & yea I agree some of the 64's are in better shape then some of the 79's cuz I know we got a few of y'all novas 7903-07 & they good but I drove 6710 & 6862 & I gotta say I rather have those it felt like 7906 was gone fall apart
John7
I know this isn't the right topic but 8229 got into a crash severely damaging the front.

(For some reason, 1930-1932 are still at North Park.) 1387 went from 77th to North Park. It should have gone to Forest Glen, alongside what 1380s and 1390s it already has (1384-1386, 1388-1394).
