Guest
Are the baby buses (500's) still at South Shops?I remember a while back seeing two sitting in a Cook Cty Sheriff lot on Cermak Rd west of Kostner. jajuan
The #1000 rehab contract said they were supposed to get LED interior lights, notice anything different about them?Sorry did not notice. But the rehab contracts stated the rehabs were only for the 1000s, 1000-1629 done through one contract and 1630-2029 under the other. The 800s were not included in that, otherwise CTA would have reported they were seeking to have 1040 buses rehabbed and not 1030.
BusHunter
But the rehab contracts stated the rehabs were only for the 1000s, 1000-1629 done through one contract and 1630-2029 under the other. The 800s were not included in that, otherwise CTA would have reported they were seeking to have 1040 buses rehabbed and not 1030.It wasn't a rehab for the hybrids, it was supposed to be an interior lighting upgrade. The interior light upgrade was for 1,050 buses. The rehabs through Cummins were for 1,030, although it is abstract if #1482 was included in that, because it had a separate contract for a complete rebuild. Also will we then be seeing #1305 in service soon? I suspect if they do a lighting upgrade they might as well do the exterior upgrade or it makes no sense to do it. The #800's, to my understanding just won't get the mechanical upgrade. I believe the original press release mentions it, if you're looking for factual info. I was thinking more along the lines of performing the mechanical upgrades, which is where my mind automatically went when you asked about if there were something different with either the above 800s. On the lighting rehab itself, CTA did throw a curve ball in that they apparently reported they would upgrade the lights on all 40 foot NFs but then retired all the 900s out of service. BusHunter
Back from the dead. #6510 is currently on #90.This bus would be good for a "The Walking Dead" wrap. (season premiere in Oct.) Cause we have walkers out here on the NW side, but their really rollers!! probably just as bad.

wordguy
A few other updates/corrections a well: 1033-37 migrated from 103 to 74 a few months back. Neither 1297 nor 1299 are at K. They're assigned to 74 & 77 respectively. 6771 & 6817, both showing as retired, are still operating out of FG (where else?)

My guess is with the 6400-Series Novas that disappear off the roster that they are random numbers(or blocks) are taken to South Shops for a 120-point inspection(or whatever CTA wants to call it, I don't know). During the inspection, they check components such as engine, transmission, wheelchair ramp, kneeling function, and other various important and secondary components to see what condition the bus is in.... if it's over a certain percentage good(say 70-75%), they'll do little touch-ups to restore some minor issues and put the bus back into service. If it's too costly of a repair, it effectively becomes retired and sits at South Shops and becomes a donor/parts bus for the remaining operable buses still in service. Anything still good goes to other buses that need it.
BusHunter
I was thinking that if FG receives 125 buses it could retire everything below the option buses (#6709) and if they did the #7900 option for 25 more then Fg could probably go with what they had originally (#6756 - #6883)

Only thing that happens to them when they reach the dead lot at 78th and Perry is being defueled and otherwise disabled. Given sw's correct premise, I wouldn't assume any specific order of retirement. However, Bus Hunter has not justified the bloat, nor why would C now need 22 additional buses. I figure there might be 55 2001-2 Novas left--30 to justify the electrics and 25 to justify exercising the remaining option. Garmon doesn't want this.
