7900-series Nova LFS - Updates

Typical thing. The operators probably don't like to use the new stuff that they are unfamiliar with unless they have to. In a few weeks that should change. The buses are nice and warm though, no wonder they brought those out for the polar vortex!! They'll be in service tomorrow but probably just in the rush.

Ah, that clears it up. On the heat issue, my grandma has apparently managed to get every bus where the heat doesn't work. I asked her to get the #'s every time it didn't and she gave me 7925, 7902, 7669, 7564 and 8002 (She works downtown and often takes the 1, 2, 3, 4). She even got the run number for 7902 (after I finally explained to her what they were) which was 7037 (part-time run on the 1). I wonder if its just misfortune or a legitimate issue

They're baaaaaaaaaaack(I knew there were a few floaters spared from the scrapyard out there)!!! :P:lol:

j/k: In all seriousness, though... I believe you mean 7969 and 7964(but only you know for sure).

No.... that was no doubt a typo by NewFlyerMCI, who originally typed these in as 7669 and 7564, which were two numbers for the defunct NABI 60-LFW series that were forced from service due to a design flaw that could've been fatal if one of those buses broke in two while it was traveling 40-50 mph on Lake Shore Drive(less fatal on a street, but still serious injuries would've been likely).

Yeah me too, but one out of how many total buses when we're talking about the 9 or 49?

True story.... another passenger inquired to my Bus Operator about the new buses too during the past week(maybe he was a transit buff?) and she told him the buses are generally kept on the south side and not on many routes that go as far as Ashland and Western too often. How much truth to that, coming from a 74th Bus Operator is unknown. I know they do travel on Halsted quite often, but that is a different garage(77th). Maybe 74th would rather keep the newest equipment on routes closer to home base. Why, I don't know.... to keep mileage down right now, maybe if a catastrophic failure occurs during a break-in period, it's just a short tow from their garage. There's lots of possibilities to the answer the Bus Operator gave the inquiring passenger about the new Novas.

It doesn't hit me as any different that 77th started on such heavy :D routes as 1, 2, and 52A. It took getting a number before they were on other routes. There probably is still an issue of driver training.

BusFinder has 8001, 8018 on 9

8003, 8005 8012, on 49,

Wow, I did like these buses! I like the design! I only rode them once on Addison going to a Cubs game. Despite the major design flaw and all the legal issues with NABI. I was always hoping that CTA would have found some sort of a repair for some of these buses, salvage them and return some of them to service.

I'm trying to figure out this sticker I saw on #8002 at the front door exterior that says "so low red line down"? Is that some kind of trademark kneeling system cause it's right where the kneeling sticker goes on the front door.

The sticker looks like it belongs on the bus. I don't think it's vandalism.

Wow, these shots can be great candidates on behalf of the 7900s Page.

Yeah my camera is pretty good now. A lot better than before. We got lucky on #8018. #1552 was in the terminal in the nb bay there and was blocking the shot so I quickly thought up the idea of shooting it from behind the buses. If only I would have thought of that with #8002 at Kedzie/Orange line, I would've had that shot too. Turns out the bus got the light and shot out of the terminal before I could get to it. I got it but it's too far away. It's kind of comical it shot out and all this salt dust was behind it like it was peeling out. I got that on my video.

Hey, at least you got a few shots. Hell, that was a difficult shot of #8017 while I was in the car with my mom in motion! Despite having the iPhone 6, I was extremely shocked that it came out very awesome!

I still love those interior lights in the bus. Great design. No ad in the ad slot though.

What happened to your iPhone 5S?

I still have my iPhone 5S. It's just that I feel like I got ripped off by T-Mobile. I paid my phone off completely but who finna pay almost a $250 phone bill after I was credited almost $200 just for paying it off???? So, I've decided to switch with Sprint. (Continue this conservation in my garmon757 topic for relevancy)
