5000-series - Updates

So, Final Verdict, stick with the original interior theme scheme & not experiment with the rest of the order & the 7000-series

They can experiment, but they need more modern seats and please get rid of the longitudinal seating. Or at least half of it. :P (use the #3200's as a model)

I don't know... being a fan of blue myself, I like the tone in the newer 5000's. I think it's a long time coming for an upgrade to interiors. I wonder if they might do the same with the still-to-come New Flyer XE40LF Prototypes as well as the NOVA LFS on the bus side of future orders, as well as the 7000-Series railcars which probably won't have a manufacturer announced until the end of this year or early next year.

I can hope against hope for a interior like this on the 3200's if the CTA really wants to get fancy with their redos. There is talk of taking out the Mylar Curtains for LED Displays, and possibly going A/C with them. I still advocate they should leave them as is, as they will be unique come their retirement in about eight years time, since they will be the final CTA railcars to have Mylar Curtains and D/C-powered trucks.

#5271-72 was out on the Red line today. It also has the blue interiors. The Purple line this week is starting to use #2600's spares again off the Red line. About a good dozen #2600 cars were in service on the Purple line. (different cars each day) Also a few more #2400's have migrated over to the Red line. (check the roster thread for more info) Skokie shops has 4 #5000's on the storage track and two individual cars were being unloaded off flatbeds today. #5265-66 was also out on the Red line but had the old tan interiors.

"There are at least 32 Brown Line cars being stored at Howard yard this
weekend. I just wonder how room was made for this considering the Red
Line has to store cars at Linden daily because of overcrowding at Howard
since May 19th." Quote by Chgofan78

If you would have looked on the other side of the yard, you would have spotted #5275-76. It's laid up over on the Howard shop side.

I see afternoon trips brownage runs from midway and alot of not in service 3200s moving through the loop. All through the week I have seen orange stickers on some brown line trains (marking the orange line cars)

There's a photo on the Internet showing 5290 on board a low-boy trailer WB on U.S. 30 in Indiana on Wednesday.

#5281-84 were at Skokie Shops early in the week, some on trailers some not, but all still needed to be mated. They might release those this weekend to Howard yard. We'll have to see, but it's likely considering they have even newer cars including #5290 now, which might be out by the middle of next week. Seems like deliveries are finally speeding up, barring any Bombard delays.

What do you mean a good laugh?

I gather because the train was a consist of a consistent numeric block of eight cars in one train (5279, 5280, 5281, 5282, 6283, 5284, 5285, and 5286) though not necessarily trained together in numerical order outside of married pairs..

You said 6283. Don't you mean 5283?

Are all of the new cars starting from 5269 coming with that blue interior or was it just a select few?

Well, I have yet to see cars from 5269 up(only 5000's I ever rode was 5147-5148 several months ago on the Red Line), but I would imagine they will all have the blue interior from now on(like 1630-2029 had the blue LED Lighting while 1000-1629 had Florescent Lighting).
