And the next garage to get New Flyers is...

I agree. It was even werider to look at 1400 on #22 Clark today (over BusTracker, of course).

There are some swaps not revealed through Bustracker. 103rd has #1481 -#1529 odds now. It seems the pattern is a 50 - 50 - 50 split between Np, 103rd and Chicago. With the next 50 already taking shape with #1856 -#1910 evens to Chicago, I would expect to see the odds in that series heading over there soon. This way all three garages would have at least 50 buses in the last option. Most likely Np, would keep #1855 and below odds to go along with the evens in that series to come there way. 103rd would end up with #1911 -#1959 and anything higher to 77th.

I'm a newly minted bus user. Every weekday I take the #56 from Logan Square to my office near Lake and Desplaines. This past weekend while surfing CTA-related sites I stumbled upon your site and found it interesting enough to register. While so far I'm generally satisfied with the service on #56, there are some questions on my mind. First, when will the #56 get new buses? Second, does anyone see hybrids on 56 any time soon? Third, what is the point of all this bus shuffling I'm reading about?

Glad to have you aboard Dann. Long story short...don't expect any hybrids any time soon, at least from the info posted here. The garage the 56 is based out of basically got totally retrofitted about 5 years ago and it seems now they are completely left out on the current batch of new equipment (short of a few 30 footers you shouldn't see on the 56).

As for the bus shuffling. As far as I am concerned, big waste of time, money and a show of poor

planning on behalf of CTA management. If you do get the chance to read some back posts, maybe it'll become a little more clearer on what is going on, or perhaps someone can explain it in 10 lines or less to keep your interest.

Enjoy the forum...it's a great source of info (some inside, some not !!!).

One has to pay attention to fleet and route assignments. The #56 is assigned to Forest Glen. The buses you can bet are: a major chance of a 6400 Nova, an occasional 6000 Flxible, or the very rare 500 Optima on the #56. No New Flyers of any kind are (or will be?) assigned to Forest Glen Garage.

I wonder if some of it is to cover some people who claimed they knew.:o

Obviously, though, it shows poor planning. Especially since there are computers to keep track of rosters, I see no point in trying to undo the even-odds, especially to assure that certain garages have 50 from each option, while assuring that two get none and one gets only a token allocation. Especially if money is as tight as Hiklevitch claimed (unless the RTA really blindsided the CTA, which I doubt). Or the CTA expects new buses from the stimulus bill, in which case, they'll shuffle again.

One can speculate the fate of FG's 6000s, but can rest assured that (because they are subject to leases) the Novas aren't going anywhere, except to the swapped with other Novas.

Thanks for the info. The only buses I've ridden on are Novas and their numbers usually begin with a 67 or 68. Too bad about the hybrids; if there's any route designed for them it would be the 56 since the buses there are involved in a lot of stop-and-go traffic.

56 wouldn't justify articulated hybrids, since most of the passengers use the Blue Line.

I had previously said that this would be the justification for allocating them, such as on 79, but CTA is obviously not doing that. However, as also mentioned, they are also hiding how many of them they have ordered (after the 150 ones under the Traxis lease).

For an even longershot-since there are only 2 5800's left(which are due to be retired soon), maybe one or two more than that... I haven't seen a "5800's update" in a while... I'll say North Park might get a couple of the 2000's, if not all 30. They can always trade 5-10 4000's for them(as some say, two 40' buses equals one 60' bus)

Trainman is going to love this... more bus swapping this weekend! After all the dust settles here at Chicago we lost 1380-1429 to North Park, in return we now have 1441-1479 (odds) from them and 1476,1478, 1856-1910 (evens) from 103rd!

Looks like NP has lower numbers now... I spotted #1332 working #11 this afternoon.

New Buses !!! Now if I only had a nickle for every swap over the last 12 months !!!!!
The cost of all these bus garage transfers will likely be added into the litigation against NABI for selling "defective" buses to the Authority.

["Plaintiff was compelled, due to safety concerns, to reassign and relocate functioning buses to serve on routes on which the buses manufactured by the defendant had been operating."]

More low 1300's on #11 right now... I see 1351 heading south.

The low 1300s at NP are most likely loaners owing to the sidelining of the 7500s. They're not assigned in any numerical sequence. (#1335, 1319 and #1008, probably among others, are on loan to Kedzie. I just scanned a few routes on Bustracker).

The upshot is that NP and Kedzie have received a number of loaners. Sending garages include Chicago, to both NP and Kedzie, 103rd to Kedzie (including some even-numbered 1500s and 1820---not among the permanently reassigned high 1800s), and FG to NP (randomly-numbered Novas).

Also, the even-numbered 4000s seem to be conspicuously absent from the 77th Street routes where they had been running. I'm guessing that they're back at 103rd. ( As previously noted, 103rd has loaned a few 1000s to Kedzie).

Finally, it looks as if some of the 6440s & '50s recently reassigned to Archer have returned to 77th.

Yes. Buses I'm used to seeing in service on #77 Belmont are on Bus Tracker on #151 Sheridan and #147 Outer Drive Express.

Hoky smokes, Bullwinkle. Did Forest Glen also send over a Flxible?!
