FG’s rumored to become an all flyer garage wit north park……it’s not confirmed but the direction things are heading towards it might be true

This doesn't seem to make sense

With the amount of Novas VTA already has plus the eventual arrivals of more Novas,  it would appear that the most likely candidate for an all New Flyer garage would be North Park.   Forest Glen would be the most likely to be all Novas with the rest having a mix of both. But even FG isn't guaranteed to be all Nova

But I would  bet FG being all Nova over all New Flyer

If it were me, I would keep K and NP all New Flyer and any remaining NFs  can go to 77th when the time comes

I said this yrs ago so if it came to pass I wouldn’t be surprised. I think as far as the newer novas go, FG don’t need the brand new ones cause they don’t have a bus washer it seems cause when it snow and a few days later they buses be crazy ashy as well as NP buses lol. Give them brand new buses to an indoor garage that’s able to wash them at the end of the day and they can look like new buses lol. Give FG the older current buses they’ll be just fine lol.

So far I've counted 15 #8300s that have been sent to 103rd. #8300,#8303,#8307,#8308,#8309,#8310,#8311,#8312,#8313,#8314,#8316,#8317,#8319  #8320, #8321.

Kedzie has acquired #1407 #1823 #1839, #1881, &#1896 #1982 & #2002 from 74th, Chicago and North Park.

74th has received #1433,#1434,#1436,#1438,#1444,#1446,#1449,#1451,#1452,#1455,#1456 & #1459 back from 77th, Kedzie and Chicago.

Chicago acquired #1401,#1405,#1407,#1408,#1410, & #1411 from 74th.

77th has acquired #1416,#1417, & #1419 from 74th.

North Park acquired #1507, #1510 back from FG while trading #1552  in exchange.

Seems like a lot of movement but for what is beyond my knowledge.

Add #8321 to that list at 103rd. #8301,#8302,#8304,#8305,#8306 are either FG still or at 103rd because they haven't run since the 4th and 5th of March.

Oh yeah I forgot about those as well.

Both garages have bus washers. When the temperature falls or expected to fall below a certain temperature they won’t run the buses through the washer to keep them from freezing up since they sit outside. That’s why you see them dirty for days.

Usually the coldest temperature are at night. While there are very cold days, most days the temperature has been above freezing.   It would seem like they could wash some of the buses that are at the garage midday.  For example,  the temperature 39° as i type this.  They should be able to run whatever buses are there through the wash.  Chances are most of those buses will be out for p.m. rush srrvice.

Thanks for that explanation ??? and that explains a lot for me. I still feel those newer buses should be at an indoor garage at least until someday in the near future The Glen will upgrade to a new facility or something along those lines lol.

Sounds like lazy employees cherry picking.  The dirtier the bus, the more likely the bus won't get cleaned.  If the interior needs more than just a touch of the mo, the cleaning crew won't touch it.  Is that about right?

So how are the bus exteriors washed?  re people using brushes  or push begins ti wash?  Are the buses driven through a wash rack?  Do they use portable machines to wash the buses?

I'll break down how things really work at 77th and usually across the system. After the PM rush generally all pull ins are serviced via the vault. If buses have defects they're either parked off to side or near the trouble track aka TT area to be serviced later on the evening they usually get washed later on that same day or not until the next day. Usually about 8-12 novas are handpicked for the late night runs and get washed. The rest of the runs are parked in different bays to be serviced by maintenance personnel. Serivce is usually general sweeping of debris off the bus before it is sent to get refueled and washed. General cleaning aka GC is done for a handful of buses ranging from about 15-20. They usually get the deep cleaning but a majority of the time all the buses get deep cleaned at some point during the week. When the temperature is below freezing for the entire day not just overnight buses will not get washed. Every garage has mechanical washers that have high pressure jets of water that spray the buses down and scrubbers you would see at a carwash remove grime, dirt and other contents of the bus. There's a video on YouTube from about 15 years ago displaying a TMC and NABI going through the bus wash at 77th.

I thought CTA said that due to COVID, they had to do a thorough cleaning of the interiors. The only official statement I found was "Extensive cleaning—buses, trains and stations cleaned multiple times each day."  Not the same as "deep cleaning" or the usual b.s.?
