More Bus Moves

While snows may be minor, ice is a problem. Once the back end slides, you lose control of the bus and jacknife.

Supposedly, the exotic German linkage in the articulation joint is supposed to prevent that.

I wonder if CTA's artics and American modern artics in general being pushers instead of pullers play a part in the physics of the actual finished product under icy conditions.

Since they aren't on rails like Metra, I don't see how there is enough stiffness to keep the front under control, but as I said before, the exotic German linkage* is supposed to do something. I'm sure some automotive engineer can comment.

Today I saw 1111 as a 103 and again once I pulled in not too long ago. Most likely a loaner from 74th but still note worthy lol.

#1111 is still out there on the #111. But I have noticed #1377's been at Chicago now for about 3-4 weeks and the #1329 bus that was there and still is has now been accompanied at Chicago with #1330. So if some of these are loans they must be long term ones. #1721's been around at Chicago for about 3 weeks too.

Andrethebusman reported that 1329/30/77 and 1721 had all been transferred to Chicago (with 1003-5) over the weekend of 9/6.

It looks as if a few New Flyers have returned to their Sweet Home Chicago Avenue, after having summered at 77th: specifically 1045 up through at least 1052.

I don't know of any other recent movements. Maybe some of the most dilapidated 6400s will start dropping off the roster now in greater numbers. Time will tell, I guess.

#1048 is still on the #4, but #1052 is in Chicago territory I believe on the #53

Looks like CTA fixed the signs on Belmont - last couple of weeks all EB buses were running 77 BELMONT to FULLERTON NATURE MUSEUM while announcement was correctly "77 Belmont to Sheridan and Diversey"

Since we had discussed that older signs don't necessarily get deleted it looks like as you mentioned before that someone referenced that older sign from before the destination swap with the #76 when programming the runs for the fall pick.

#1587 was spotted @ Congress and State while heading to Kedzie Garage not 74th!!! So, it's making me wonder if Kedzie got #1588 and #1589 as non-loans???

Yes Garmon, your suspicions are correct. i forgot to mention #1589 was on the #12 yesterday so it looks like at least those 3 buses are now at Kedzie.

I thought that was reported by Andre yesterday On the 7900 thread? I'm starting to get nervous that 77th will lose many flyers again. The 7900 too slow I avoid them at all costs. I see no reason for 7900 to be at 77th.

Well that was unexpected about them being slow mate. Anyway it goes, 77th has to forfeit some 1000s because of the 7900s consistently being in service. Also, I got a feeling that it may forfeit a lot of 1200s.

You have to wonder why would Kedzie need more #1000's in the first place. It might be because they plan on losing some hybrid #800's. Seems weird 33 #7900's in service and no #6400's retired. Speaking of #6400's, FG replaced the seats on #6516, just the bottoms, but it makes the bus look much better.

The fault I see with the #7900's is not that they are slow, (they are passing #1000's on LSD) is that they are typically hot buses. I guess Nova doesn't give them a free AC recharge, but even if they ran the vents the bus shouldn't be that warm. The second is all these push bells on grab bars. There's like two up front two at the rear door and one at the back. That's too many. The one by the rear door, there's one they put right where people lean against the base board/partition for the rear door seems to have an issue. I was standing there myself and I swear I was ringing the bell, so now I'm leary of standing there. Also these rear doors are always hard to open like I'm not breaking the signal on the vapor door. Maybe it's just me or maybe not. I need to examine what other riders are doing there before I can really say if it needs adjustment or not.

Did the 7100/7300's have this problem? I understand they were pullers, but don't recall incidents involving ice.
