More Bus Moves

Nah its still a few buses out of 103rd that shows the NP sign when deadheading for some strange reason that started back in the winter pick I guess the mechanics still haven't got to all of them fixed yet.

This is a coding problem. Mostly affects #6's deadheading 79/Lakefront to Wacker/Columbus in evening. With the Clever Systems controlling the signs, if an error creeps in it is hard to fix.

Ummm I think both of you need to reread all the posts in this thread from yesterday. There was a major glitch on BusTracker that fouled up a lot of the bus IDs. 2029 also appeared to be on a 77th route for example, but that was determined to actually be 1958. So in reality there were no artics (or any other NF model for that matter in all likelihood) on any FG routes yesterday or and Chicago 2000s anywhere except a route assigned to Chicago.

Last night (7/20) 103rd had a couple of artics working on Ashland. 4314 seen up close at Irving Park/Clark with run 1377, another with 1807 approaching. I assume these were Pitchfork extras.

X99's fatal flaw was that Ford's "support industries" do not have set work hours, but vary week to week depending on how many cars Ford is going to produce that week. One week they might work 12 hours, next week only 6 a day. I saw this in Belvidere with Chrysler's suppliers. Result was workers could use bus this week, but quit too early or too late next week, so why not drive all the time?

So pretty much Cta couldn't work out the scheduling conflict with Ford?

If so it can't be too many #6401 is on the #9. I would like to know now if those artics on the #9 yesterday were from 103rd or not? I'm curious about that. It would seem they were out of 103rd. #4317 is on the #6

Yea the artics you are talking about we're out of 103rd.

As indicated, they didn't work for Ford, but for various suppliers of Ford. Similar issue to some Japanese airbag manufacturer finding a problem, and BMW, Mitsubishi, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, and GM having to do a recall. Similarly, Lear makes the seats (that plant is in Hammond; nwitimes article).

The only reason these independent suppliers are across the street is to enable "just in time" delivery, and I guess if not enough Tauruses and and Explorers are being made, they cut back hours.

This is strangely interesting.... BusTracker came out in 2007 and worked pretty good since(random ghost bus here and there), but all in all, it was a pretty well-functioning program. Fast forward seven years later with all the updates and such, and suddenly the BusTracker is having major glitches where it I.D's some buses as different buses(e.g: a Nova(6400) is actually a New Flyer(1000) and vice-versa). In this age of modern technology, updated smartphones and tablets, and better GPS technology, one would think a program such as BusTracker would only get better, not worse seven years later. TrainTracker is still working well, as far as I know.

Now that ought to be an interesting turn from Ashland onto Irving Park, especially if vehicles are in the left turn lane of Irving Park at the time. Sometimes a 40' bus requires a vehicle to back up or pull around it to complete it's turn. A 60' bus might be a little more challenging.

Yeah ever since the city reconfigured the lanes on Irving Park to a 2 (WB) + 1 (EB) between Southport and Ashland from the previous 2 lanes each direction, that has been a tight turn for NB Ashland buses., but the more interesting turn to have seen one of those artics make would have been from Clark on to Southport to get back to Ashland on a southbound trip. That came to mind when I saw one of them last night on the north layover at Clark/Southport because the Clark/Southport turn is even tighter than the NB Ashland/Irving one. Since the next bus out was the 74th based NF 1000 it was parked behind I never got to board myself and see how operators in the artics negotiated that turn. And BusHunter's observation that 4317 is on the 6 along with my own that that artic from last night was between that trip I normally take on Sunday nights and the regular run scheduled behind it backs up the suspicion Andre and I had about them being extra service for this year's Pitchfork concerts that were at Union Park over the weekend.

But remember that the code for the software program used in the BusTracker technology is still written by human beings for each update to the system that occurs each pick along with the fact that no technology or machine can ever be 100% perfect because human beings themselves aren't 100% perfect. So you're still going to have moments when errors in coding occur and result in some failure here and there. Plus there are also some outside factors that come together at just the right instant in time that also knock the system out of calibration and again result in failures and glitches somewhere. BusTracker and any other GPS based technology are no different.

This may sound funny or crazy but those could be loans from 77th (wild guess), because 1004 is on #8 right now and 4172-4176 are still at 103.

They could be just sending those back. 103rd is short, 77th is not short and has 7 new #7900's to fall back on.

If Cta Was Smart The Idea Of Having The 700's Series Xcelsiors On The 124 Is A Good Idea But Instead Of Having The 124 Terminate At Union Station Have It Exstended To Harrison And Desplaines And Put A Charging Station There Since That's Cta Property With That Being Said Cta Will Have To Add An Extra Bus So That Recalls In Longer Layover Times At The Terminals And Will Also Space Headways Between Buses And Just Have The 125 And 156 Layover On Desplaines Under The Eisenhower And Put A Charging Station At Navy Pier And Have Them Layover Where The 121 Layovers So It Will Be Out The Way Of Other Buses That's My Opinion

Well If The Red Line Gets Exstended To 130th Will Cta Suspend The N34 South Michigan Owl Service?

Well they have yet to say how they'd pay for an extension to 130th, let alone get to an actual design stage that designates an actual right of way path. So the extension ain't happening anytime soon and 34's service hours are safe.

I thought the pirates were on the Orange line!! :P

Somehow, I have the feeling those thieves come under another description, but I can't put my finger on it, but come somewhat within Sarah Silverman's description of rape and pillage.
