You're missing 1430-1479 which if I remember correctly should be listed as Chicago garage buses. It just occurred to me you missed it in your other post listing 1000s assignments as of the fall pick.

  • 2 weeks later...

you never know, it could be a fill in

I was think that too which is why I qualified it as a possible shift. Your sighting of 1478 on the 111 seems to point to it leaning toward a possible minor shift in equipment. I won't comment about 1991 on the 2 since that could fall in fill in territory and 77th often times uses what was at hand at the Shops before sending it back its respective home garage.

I spotted 1479 on the 95E this morning and 1474 on the 71 shortly after. Both had C stickers in the window.

Based on what I heard through some bus drivers its a equipment shuffle and some loaners(with a slight increase in overhaul repair) . Just what I heard so not the exact reason but just small talk by the garage.

Your guess is as good as mine

Well if anyone is wondering i take the bus quite often and i live in oak park but most of the buses are based from Chicago garage and i have noticed a modest decrease in 1800's to 2000's and a increase in old new flyers. New flyers ranging from 1000's to 1400's. i have also seen 1125 and 1131 on route 72 North Ave. What i think CTA is doing is sending all the buses with the new seating arrangement that is on 1930-2029 to 79th for the red line shuttle program. There are only a small number of 2000's that i have witnessed from over 10 routes that run from Chicago in the past two weeks.

It's much too early for that. Today 1131 is back on the South Side (on the #67, which is a 74th route).

With the proposed elimination of the #145 this coming December, Kedzie would have less of a need for artics by that time (so expect a few buses from its current fleet of artics to be transferred to 77th and 103rd Garages). And unless Kedzie picks up some of the routes outside of what it currently runs (because most of its routes would not have added service when the service revision goes into effect), expect some of its 40-foot New Flyers to be transferred to other garages in exchange for a handful of soon-to-be-retired Novas.

My thinking on the last part about possible shuffling because of the cut of the 145, the 148 will still be there though through a folding of 144 routing into that route at the north end. Plus I was also thinking there is a possibility that Kedzie may start doing some 146 runs in December since buses freed up through the elimination of the 145 are supposed to go into beefing up the 146. So I wouldn't look to a big shuffle of actual buses as much as there is likely going to be a shuffle of route assignments at the garages.

I think Jajuan is probably right. It doesn't look as if the existing 145 runs are actually being eliminated; most likely they're just being shortened, with the Clarendon and Wilson legs being cut except during rush hours. I'm speculating that the existing runs will remain south of Irving Park, which is where the demand really is.

Many 145s short-turn during rush hours via West Sheridan, Pine Grove, Irving Park, and Inner Lake Shore. My guess is that this loop will be in effect all day after 12/16 as a rechristened "short-turn 146". Like the short-turn 151s to Belmont, they'll likely continue to operate from Kedzie.

The only equipment shift I can immediately envision would be the reassignment of a few 40-footers from North Park to Kedzie for the resurrected 37 which I assume will be assigned to Kedzie.

No. CTA will eliminate #145 and modify #148 to operate to/from Foster/Marine via Clarendon, Lawrence, and Marine.

This is not really responsive to the posts. Since 146 is supposed to get more service, and 145 rush hour only went to Mark Grace St., more than likely just a renumbering for that portion of the route. Don't know if that affects garage allocations. Similarly, one has to wonder if the new 148 would be assigned to Kedzie if it ends at Marine-Foster.
