7900-series Nova LFS - Updates

7901??? 7900-Series Nova Smart Bus??? That's an unusual number to start with... With 300 expected, possibly 450 if all options are exercised, the series begins at 7900 and ends at 8199(8349 if all options are exercised).

Weird number assignment for this series...

Maybe they're keeping numbers consolidated until some more number blocks are freed up to use as series numbers. #1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6400, 7000 and now 8000 are all assigned to some series that are still here in great numbers and still have a while before they start getting retired (exception being the 6400 series Novas, 2400-2800 rail cars which are currently being replaced by new arrivals).

7900 should be right behind 7901. That should be the bus the CTA will have for the Press Conference introducing the new series to the public.

Thats IF they even do a press release. Remember the 4300's sat on garage grounds for a month or two before being phased into service for the decrowding (until it was time for them to run the Dan Ryan shuttles) and there was no press release for them when they first came

I don't think they would go retro-1983 like with the Flyer D901A's(same series, different numbers) 9800-9974 and 1600-1624.

...and now 8000 ...

In which case, I would have bet starting with 8000 instead of 7900. Only justification I can see for 7900 is that they figure that the 7000 series of L cars won't go past 7846.

There's also the possibility that this number only reflects the prototype, not the series. However, that's only speculation on my part.

Not saying they would. My main point was that they maybe trying to keep things consolidated so they could still have free blocks to assign to future series until series taking up huge blocks of numbers are eligible for retirement. 1000, 4000, 5000, and 7000-8400 are occupied by equipment thats gonna be here for at least 7 years not to mention that these are large series quantity wise. Plus 2400-3500 are still occupied.

What occupies 3500-3999??? The 3200's end at 3457-3458.

long time no see sw4400 :D

nothing in that series block. But do you remember when some of us said the 5000's was the dubbed 3500's but i would think that would've been a good series block for the New buses but it would trail over into the 4000's as well as in case that the 5000 series got reintegrated from the original 4 (just a thought nothing to debate)

One thing you overlooked is that if they actually do go with 7900, then 8000-8349 (if they did get the full 450) would still be in numberical sequence. Similar to how we currently have buses 2000-2029 among the NFs and still part of the 1000 series. So your comparison with the D901's doesn't really apply here.

We still have 4400-4999 empty.

Very true. both would do good for some small orders under 700 buses or rail cars. But still they gotta think ahead for future orders and series as well and most of the numbers I bought up are assigned to relatively new series of equipment thats not going anywhere for a good while and the next series thats going to be retired after the rail cars are the 1000-series New Flyer D40LF which are 1030 buses meaning unless they are going to have multiple contracts/models replace this series, they need to keep a whole 1000 numbers open for that purpose and there aren't many options left with all the various numbers for the assigned to relatively new equipment thats still going to be here around that time. So I bought up the point of consolidation because maybe they are trying to keep 2000, 3000, 6000 and 9000 open for that plus the DE60LF models which are gonna hit retirement age around the time they get to retiring option 3 or 4 of the #1000 series.

Strange that there are two buses on the way. The prototype is one bus. I think that delivery has officially started on the series. If that's the case we'll soon see mass amounts of buses coming in soon at a pace of about 5-10 a week, if they deliver similar to the #6400's. That's the only way they can deliver 300 buses in 2014.

I can't help but believe somehow this latest FG/77th transfer has something to do with these #7900's arriving. Somehow the objective seems to get the #6800's to Fg and Fg's #6500's to 77th. I'd be really surprised if these #7900 buses don't debut at 77th.
