Probably a consolidation issue. If there’s gonna be an inter line let it be a core corridor interline vs what used to happen where there were so many separate routes that time keeping and fleet spread became an issue. Probably the reason why J14 and 26 don’t switch ends even though it would make sense. You’d have to reintroduce the 127 for the reverse peak traffic to muesem campus

When you say switch ends, you mean downtown? Or in South Shore? And the 127 was that Madison-Roosevelt-Canal circulator, right? How does that fit in?

Cta talking bout they want people to start using public transit again but yea my mama just called me talkibg bout come get her off birth ave & Cicero cuz the 54 coming south said 30 mins tf how the he'll they want people to start using public transit but wanna have buses gapped out like that & it aint no breakdowns or nothing holding up the bus just CTA got a big gap in between buses the last bus that she didn't make was at Madison going to 24th & the follow bus after was still heading to Montrose smfh CTA is just too slow

The service gaps get quite bad and it's mostly a combination of CTA reducing headways over the years combined with ever increasing traffic on the streets.

Even when the bus is on time, it takes at least three times longer than driving. Late buses and missed connections just make that worse. The unreliability of the system means that most people don't want to put up with it.

There's a few things that CTA can do to make the system more efficient:

1. All door boarding - requires CTA to accept that there will be some fare evasion.

2. Stops every quarter mile - will be difficult because everyone wants their bus stop, but most west coast cities are on 1/4 stop spacing.

3. Rethink streets - better bus stops and longer bus stop zones, better pavement quality, more bus lanes - politicians will get involved especially when parking is up for discussion.

4. Add service - most expensive and counter to what CTA has been doing for the past 25 years.

You guys were talking about school runs for lane tech. I dont think they had any this morning at least out of north park.

14 and 26 swap downtown terminals and the #127 NW/Madison route comes back to handle reverse peak museum traffic

Bus lanes do work with proper introduction & enforcement. They work just fine in the Loop Link, I took the J14 up and down Madison/Washington and people didn't drive in them. They just need to be integrated into the driving culture of where they're placed. Even something as simple as Botts' dots demarcating a bus lane from a regular traffic lanes does wonders.

I can't speak to Chicago, but there's a whole host of reasons a bus could be late in the loop, and no bus lane is fixing 16 mins behind schedule. All I can say is that for the J14, from OTC to Balbo, I spent more time on Michigan than I did on Washington.
