BusHunter
Nobody physically saw the buses right? I know #6823 just went poof about 4 blocks before it got to me. Then #1674 shows up which was bus bunched with #1441 and before it was saying #6823 was bunched with #1441. sw4400
This is probably way too soon to tell, but since FG has the apparent capacity of 250+ buses, I wonder if this is what the FG of the future will look like down the road....8200-8324 assigned to FG(125 buses)125 New Flyer D40LF's assigned from various garages to FG, making a total of 250 buses. A half/half split of brand new/newly rehabbed buses. This is of course if the future home of 8200-8324 is to be FG, which I'm not really certain of.... all we can do is wait for the first few 8200's to roll in. BusHunter
Can you imagine what those public service messages would look like put together? Here's a thought for a 7900-Series Nova on #53....53 Pulaski53 to Petersonvia Faster BusesNo they really should say on the #7900's putting the heat on the competition; burn baby burn!!Fg buses could say, see your doctor for some Prozac today!! Dawnlight
I saw the roster page, and I noticed that Chicago is missing for the 1000 series New Flyers. Is this an error? That 125 option already screams FG. If FG gets the option, at least they'll have the newest out of all the 7900s. There is a silver lining to this whole "FG gets the worst equipment" thing after all. It will most likely be a 1000/7900 garage by May 2016. I wouldn't be surprised if 1000s start appearing at FG as early as October. It seems the 7900's are being delivered to garages who once had 6400's before FG lost their NF's to 77th. Chicago is already massively overcrowded at 306 buses. They should have 283 buses. Looks like they got a handle on these raining buses and now they are putting out the buses faster maybe to make up for lost time. They could probably stand to lose all the #6400's now. That would still give them two weeks of deliveries or maybe up to 20 could possibly be at FG by fall pick.

This is all due to the delivery of Chicago Garage's allotment of the new Novas.I wouldn't be surprised that tomorrow some of 77th's 1200s also end up at Kedzie and/or 103rd. Every Nova bus in service right now are on Forest Glen routes. It doesn't look as if any of Chicago Avenue's 30-plus 6400s have been moved over the past few weeks. In the meantime, those old Novas remaining at C are held in over the weekends. AFAIK, none of the FG Novas operating today was newly transferred from C.I believe they'll reappear on C runs Monday.Interesting moves otherwise. It doesn't look as if many 6400s have been retired recently though. Now that we're just a couple weeks shy of the new school year, I think the CTA will need to beef up the overall size of its fleet. After the schools let out at the end of June, a lot of old Novas were retired without replacement. The upshot is that the system seemed to be running with a leaner roster over the summer. You would think if they really wanted to send the surplus south it would have went to 74th for the X buses. It's getting more likely Fg will not be receiving #1000's this year. Fg will be getting the Novas from Chicago though. They seem to be trying their damnest to not send #1000's to Fg, but how in the world is 125 buses going to replace 250? As they are now a third through the chicago delivery another third's displacement will be those #6400's to fg, but the question is where is the last third's displacement going to go 74th for the X service? It's disheartening that they are messing up the fleet more yet. Kedzie will not get the #1600's back from C, and C will not get the #1400's back from K. Busjack
Looks like all the surplus at Chicago went to the south side..... That's what I can't figure out. There might be something like balancing mileage, but C getting 8100s doesn't explain a swap.

Dawnlight
Could it be because those 6400 Novas are not retiring fast enough? Things could change once CTA cuts off the fat with those old buses.
briman94
Hopped on a brown line to Kimball at Jackson today, and soon realized something was off but couldn't figure out what (aside from the fact that the driver used the e-brake/track brake at literally every stop). After a few more stops I realized what was off...the driver was logged into a red line run playing "Red Line train to Howard" announcements! This included "doors open on the Right at Fullerton". He switched at Fullerton to brown line announcements. That made me think...if the brown line had run 5000s, that wouldnt be possible, would it? Doesn't the driver have to be logged in for the train to move, and aren't the signs, announcements, and run number all tied to the login? It sure seems that way at the moment, but it does look as if FG operators are getting trained on the 1000s. Just a hunch, but I'm not sure that Chicago's remaining 6400s will be shifted to FG. Maybe I'm wrong, but the last migration of old Novas from C to FG occurred when the first few 8100s arrived (maybe 10 in all). The 8200s aren't expected until next spring or summer, while the remaining 6400s aren't getting any younger. The Glen should start receiving 1000s very soon (I would think), possibly close to 100 to see them through next winter. What would really make sense --- but isn't likely to happen --- would be the return of some 6400s to 74th and maybe even (God forbid) 77th, in exchange for more 1000s for FG. Then all the old Novas could be limited to school runs and tripper service.
