trainman8119
94 has found its way to the Western Ave "dead line" since last Wednesday. Given the way things are these days, probably will be sitting there for 6 months or more !

I say dead line because they put a whole bunch of engines out there and then just ignore them for months, including Amtrak F59s and the recently delivered 94. For example 92 has been out running and suddenly has found itself at the end of the line in the east yard. There is also a NIRC switch engine in the line for 2 weeks now.
John7
I doubt 94 will be at western yard coupled to the other f59s for a long time considering it was just rebuilt along with 201 which is probably already in service. As for the rest of the f59s from amtrak of course those will be held up in the yard for quite a while since some of them were rehabbed 5-6 years ago. Metx 88 (ex cascades/surfliner 465) not long after it was repainted it was put into service since 88 was the last of the 21 ex amtrak f59s to be rehabbed. Only time will tell when 94 gets placed into service.
andrethebusman
Progress has to be thrilled to get this work. They are absolutely dying since Tier 4 kicked in. Muncie has got to be a ghost town. These rebuild jobs are about all they have left.
John7
Couple of f59phis at union station. Currently on mil west line. Past metx 80 and 85 is leading. Missed 88 at the station. Almost all the f59s are in service

I read both articles. The first one doesn't make sense. The writer acknowledges that CTA would lose 3% of its bus riders and 1% of its rail riders to a beefed up and cheaper Metra service The author wonders why the buses compete with Metra? The answer is that they don't. All of those far south side routes feed the Red Line, so even the math doesn't work. The vast majority of south side Red Line riders transfer to/from a bus. 87th and possibly Garfield are the only stations that have parking near the station where some riders park their cars. However those ar shopping area parking lots not meant for commuters. The other thing to consider is how many riders travel beyond downtown? The Garfield Green Line parking is for commuters, but yes, there's no commuter parking at the Dan Ryan.
