More Bus Moves

4121 on the 53, running out of C

4007, 4015, 4016, 4032 & 4040 on the 79, running out of 7

4069, 4075, 4079, 4132, 4148, 4158, 4159, 4162, 4163, 4169 on the 20, running out of C

I hadn't realized just how many artics had moved (C didn't have any right?)

The 4300s are on the usual assignments out of 3 and NP

The 12 and 82 are seeing more consistent artic use (12 usually on the weekends and 82 usually during pm rush)

I’m currently on 4014 on #4 and there’s another artic about 3-5 blocks ahead of us. There’s only 4 passengers but I assume part of that has to do with the bus in front of us. As I write, they’ve deployed a supervisor for the NB section at Cottage Grove & 67th, with a Chicago police SUV behind it (not sure if he’s with the supervisor or not)

EDIT: Passed 4012 & 4008 bunched together heading SB at Cottage & 63rd

EDIT2: Just boarded 4040 SB at Cottage & 61st with a medium size load, lot of people like me getting on at the Jewel Oscos, also saw 4017 headed NB. That’s at least 30 artics that have been sent to 7 and 6

4077, 4122, 4135 are all now at C, and are on the 53, along side 4069, 4079 & 4163

4010 and 4207 are at 77th, on the 79

4008, 4011, 4012, 4014, 4017, 4033, 4039 are now at 77th, on the 4

While the 20 & 53 seem to have an even ratio of artics, the 79 now only has 2 compared to the 5 from yesterday and the 4, which had none, now has 9, I think. These buses also still have their K stickers on, obv. This makes for a total on 25 artics gone, 14 to Chicago and 11 to 77th. For reference, these are the routes that have been mentioned or talked about the last couple of days and how they rank as busiest in the city,

  • 1st: 79
  • 4th: 4
  • 7th: 53
  • 10th: 82
  • 11th: 20
  • 15th: 63
  • 18th: 12

To where?

To 77th, we've had so many issues as of late on 79th, theirs a lot of runs not getting filled but especially 79th. I basically had to pull-out due to a run not being on the street to relief and roughly pulling right back in when I didn't get a relief east on 79th.

@YoungBusLover Do you know how they're assigning artics to routes at 77th? It seems to be pretty consistent at Chicago (even mix on the 20 & 53) but at 77th it seems to be at random. At first it was 79 only, then a mix of the 79 & 4, then just the 4 and now just the 79, and there's one on the 3 as well? Are they prioritizing them all on one route, or should be expect to see something similar to what they're doing with the 20 & 53

I honestly have no idea, they've created special runs for 79th street using a mix of 40-60 footers that are used during the day to help alleviate crowding EB/WB crowds coming to the red line. I call those extra runs helpers in a sense since they only go from either the red line to the lakefront or the red line to western. Some veteran operators that have experience with artics are using them with there regular runs which is probably why Cottage grove had a lot of them out yesterday and 79th only had 2 from what I saw. It all boils down to experience which to me 77th doesn't seem to have right now along with a lot of operators calling off and newer operators still getting trained, it's a fluid situation to say the least. I'm on the extra board today so I may be apart of the de-crowding efforts on 79th today.

Sounds like that relief on hand situation that someone here described as happening at 63rd red line the other day. And gotcha, thanks for the explanation.
