Service on the Red Line has resumed after an earlier derailment near Granville, however shuttle trains will continue to provide service between Addison/Loyola, and from Loyola/Howard.

Shuttle buses are also still running. Presumably only a single track is open resulting in very slow operation for the trains that do get through.

Update:

Red Line service has been temporarily suspended between Granville and Loyola due to a derailment.

As a result, trains are operating only between Granville/95th, and between Loyola/Howard only.

Shuttle trains will provide connecting service between Addison/Granville, and Loyola/Howard.

Shuttle buses are available to provide connecting service between Granville and Loyola.

Passengers may use #22, #36, #147, and #151 buses as alternatives to Red Line service.

See station personnel for further assistance, and pay attention to announcements on trains and at stations for service information.

We are working to restore service as quickly as possible. Allow extra travel time.

I don't understand the part that I underlined. Are they saying they are running some trains between Addison and Granville instead of all the way to 95th, or that you have to transfer at Addison to get from Granville to 95th?

Sun-Times article clarified this. Regular trains ran from 95th to Addison and the shuttle from Addison to Granville, apparently necessary due to the normal track being out of service for repairs. The rest of the article is just riders complaining.

Uh-oh... looks like there was a jumper on the Blue Line at Clark/Lake. No trains running in the subway right now.

In addition to apparently some pretty major (talking: smoke) mechanical problems near Austin. Blue Line's a mess today. Hope the person at Clark/Lake ends up okay if they're not already pronounced dead.

Service suspended on the Brown Line from Kimball to Belmont due to a derailment. Sounds like it was in the yard, so no one was on it. Here's a picture of the derailment: https://twitter.com/themastrangelo/status/667334283351031809

Hoping the operator is okay.

Me too...didn't seem like it was a bad collision but they probably just wanted to check them out and make sure they were okay. Here are a couple more pics from Facebook:

Doesn't look like it was a very intense crash but still...at 6 MPH, how do you not see that you're going to collide in that situation? The operator must have been distracted; that's the only explaination.

Doesn't look like the assessment in the early stories simply that a train "derailed," either. The post to which verive.m linked didn't show the back side of 3447, but clearly the third picture in your post shows that something whacked it.

Oh wow, yeah definitely a collision. I just assumed it was a switch issue. I wonder if they'll be able to fix that car or just scrap.

The underpass between Cumberland and Rosemont used to have signs on the ROW ......"deer crossing" that evidently were taken down by souvenir hunters. The signs were always mentioned on charters. Deer that used the riverbank of Des Plaines River as a path would get trapped by the highway and sometimes end of on the CTA tracks.

I remember something like that made the papers a few years ago (Must have been a slow news day). Apparently the fence is low enough for them to jump, as I don't see how else they could get from the riverbank to the tracks.
