Why the hell #1746 is on #22 right now?!?!?! Well the 15 is a 103rd route and 4309 is still a 103rd assigned bus. But I'll grant you it is rare.

Busjack
Well whatever may be, I bet the driver of it was probably saying "WTF"! Hell, let me have that bus if I was working for 103rd! It undoubtedly was an example of "that bus is better than no bus" cited by others, usually with respect to Optimas. Also, in the early days of the NABIs, there were articulated buses on 15. The weird thing I noted when trying to see what was on the routes was that Route 15 didn't want to appear on the BusTracker map, although it eventually did.

But I'll grant you it is rare. it's not as rare as you think though, it happens from time to time putting artics on the 15 but mostly on school runs or if it's all they have at the garage depending on the time the operator gets the bus. Like for instance it was plenty of times they gave me a frickin optima bus when I had to do the 30 in the a.m. I was pissed about it but it was all they had at the time.
NewFlyerMCI
So, does the J14 use 1000-series on a regular basis now? Since I spotted #1529 and #1029 are on the J14. And if so, why not wrap them? It is because of budgeting issues?

And if so, why not wrap them? It is because of budgeting issues? Seeing 1000 series on J14 honestly depends on dispatch and how busses get assigned at the garage, must have something to do with bus availability and ridership patterns. There won't be any need to wrap the 1000 series as they aren't totally dedicated to J14 service (unlike the wrapped 4000's @ 103rd) and the 1000 series are assigned to various routes in a day. Same goes for when 4300's get assigned to J14 runs, its just a coincidence and not permanent so no need to wrap them.

I'm not sure how you couldn't see #15 on the map because every time I click on it, no problem for me but I will say that #8 was so f'ing glitched up (last year) it didn't show anything. At the time, I had clicked on 15 on the route list and didn't get a response. Then I control-clicked on 9 and 15 and got only 9. Then I cleared 9 and got 15. I also tried the Individual BusFinder for the bus number and it wouldn't respond either, although it did respond that 700 and 701 weren't found or running. I have the feeling that there was some transitory server problem.

True, but I used rare in this instance as meaning it wasn't a school day so it wasn't as likely that an artic would be seen on the 15 as well as artics overall appear in small numbers on this route in general compared to how 1000s are assigned. The same as how a few 1000s may be seen on say J14, 146 or 147. Both instances it's not a regular first choice assignment. So in that case it's relatively rare. It normally would've been a school day but CPS cancelled classes. We know how late CTA gets news on school closings. For example there used to be 8700s that ran down Loomis when I was a child. I saw these buses everyday but they were always empty. Later I find out these buses were school runs but the school they were serving closed. I can't remember how long they ran until someone finally figured out what was going on.

The parents got word that classes were cancelled at what is relatively the last minute compared to other cities announcing class cancellations during the early part of the weekend when the dangerous wind chills were first forecast and in light of our illustrious mayor wanting to project that he's tough and serious about education issues. so It's not much of a surprise that CTA would get late word of it after already having the operators' schedules in place. Bus drivers, can you help us with this?

Bud drivers, can you help us with this? I don't really know how Anheuser-Busch drivers can answer this question, Busjack..... This Artic Chill is brought to you by Budweiser.... who remind you that the best beer is a cold beer. So refrigerate or put it on the back porch to chill and enjoy. Drink responsibly.* *=I'm unable to drink for medical reasons, but I couldn't resist putting up this little self-made ad...

During the Blizzard of 1967, we found out there wasn't any school when a CTA supervisor got on the bus & told us to go home, that school was closed. That was the first time in decades that CPS had closed schools, because they were so money grubbing for the daily pay the schools got from the state, for every kid that was in class that day. Thankfully the state changed the formula & now it's done on an average daily attendance, which is why CPS closes schools more often, as it should have been doing in the first place. While living outside Chicago proper, that was the first time I had off from school, too. I guess 36 inches at once was too much for anyone to handle. Of course, 1979 was as bad or worse. I don't know if "average daily attendance" makes much difference, as make-up days are announced. That was a subject of comments that were deleted on a teachers' blog. MOST transfers between garages occur on weekends (overnight). 77th is only exception due to having south shop where sometimes they just send out whatever is on hand from other garages. That isn't really classified as transfer status. If 77th is to get artics (highly doubt) then look at weekend to see if transfer occurs. There has to be a reason why 77th has no artics. 74th I believe was due to no lifts to support artics. (Could be totally wrong about that).
