7900-series Nova LFS - Updates

South Shop 7

The first pic of #8020 seems to have a old nova in the background. Father meets son.... (or something like that)

With regard to the bigger roof pod, sort of reminds me of Whose Line Is it Anyway:

Things you can't say to your finance's parents:

Heather points to Wayne's crotch:

"He got THAT from you?"

Holy Moses, that's a lot to report!!!

Yep, and with a gap in the middle (8050-76). But I guess that happened with 7900-99, too.

Good job Garmon. That's 22 buses at the shops. I had 11 or 12 that need to go into service. This is going to push that list up to 25-30 buses now. I thought maybe they would be at 200 by the end of May but maybe at this rate the beginning of it.

Garmon have you physically ever seen #8013? I don't know if it's here or not.

Thanks! It should help by having more flexibility among 74th routes esepecially #44, #48, #75, and #94 due to the fact that those routes were dominated with Novas. I saw #8013 at the shop late January but never in serivce. Also, #7943 is OOS while #7916, #7968, and #7992 are still in a stalemate situation at the shop.

So, are #8050-69 and #8070-above all going to 74th? Or will some of these start heading to Chicago or FG. Also, my grandma rode #8017 very very early this morning on 75, right behind an older nova (she didn't get the number)

I would put my money that they are going to 74th. I think each 7900 garage gets 100. Now 8100+ all bets are off.

That's usually the trend, unless the equipment falls apart so quickly that something like the odd-evens occurs.

There are also the issues of driver training and stocking parts, which indicate that they don't want to spread a new series out too thin.

The first mystery question is who gets 8100- 8199? My guess is still FG, though others think it may be Chicago Ave.

The second mystery question is will CTA exercise the option of 150 buses with Nova? If so, then I believe FG gets an additional 75 of those and C gets the remaining 75. Because C is not Nova heavy, they will have to give up some NFs to FG so that FG gets rid of all of its old Novas AND FG doesn't have a 100% brand new fleet when all of the dust settles.

They said in the budget that they would. Usually the allocation is based on exercising options.

The only real mysteries are whether the FG fleet is going to hold up,* some buses that were sent from FG to 74 are coming back, and if the whole option is going to FG, FG would still be about 100 buses short and hence would need 100 NFs.

The articles today about bus ridership being down 8% (although some was attributed to the Polar Vortex, the weather so far in 2015 hasn't been much better) also raise the question whether the bus fleet will further shrink.

____________

*The surmise why 74th originally got only about 30 NFs was that 30 of the 330 6000 series Flxs were then out of service.

Still patiently waiting for my 1st ride, but I will persevere. Recap of my recent travels....

  • Got a SB #9 to work(New Flyer), saw a 8000 heading to Irving Park.... strikeout
  • Left work to catch a #9 NB, saw a 8000 heading SB.... strikeout

One day, I will get my 1st ride!!! *shakes fist*

Wow, I did like these buses! I like the design! I only rode them once on Addison going to a Cubs game. Despite the major design flaw and all the legal issues with NABI. I was always hoping that CTA would have found some sort of a repair for some of these buses, salvage them and return some of them to service.

I too liked the design of the NABI buses. I hated the ride quality of those buses though. Particularly if you sat in the middle of the bus for an extended period of time, you butt would be sore!

Wow shocking #8038 is on the #49 on a weekend!! #8039 is also on the #67.

Actually on the #9 there were at least three of them in service earlier today. I was wondering if other routes had them in service and the answer is yes. As for 77th, I think there may have been previous times that 77th had a few of theirs in service on the weekend, so no as BusHunter alluded to, 74th didn't beat 77th in that regard to answer NewFlyerMCI's question.

Can someone explain why 7943 is OOS

#8030 has decided to join us. It's on the #9 for it's first day. Also #8017 is showing up on bustracker on the #47, first time in a few weeks. I think the last sighting was on the #9, when it ran with #8015 when it was a couple days into service.

The threshold now to watch for at 74th is how long it might take for them to use Smart buses in owl service as 77th does. So far it's still only New Flyers on any owl runs out of 74th.

They had one out last week pretty late on the #47. I think it was the day I filmed #8037. But we still have yet to see one on sunday.
