BusHunter
5159-60 & 5163-64 are in a four car consist on Green Line. Hmm that day Garmon said #5157-58 was on Green, (Sunday) #5159-60 was still on yellow, so that's a very fresh transfer.
peter.pyterek
5493-94 are still missing from the first page as 2 of the Red Line's 332 5000's.
BusHunter
Tonight #5165-66 was in a 6 car consist with #5159-60 so maybe Green line got the #5160's. #5169-70 is still on the red line though.
chgofan78
5207-5208, 5289-5290, and 5349-5350 are all back on the Red Line. I saw all three of those sets this morning. 3197-3198 are back on the Red Line. They were the lead cars on a train I had yesterday. I also had 5461-5462 on the Purple Line this morning. Chicagos_D
What's the difference between "training train" and "rail instruction train"?
sw4400
What's the difference between "training train" and "rail instruction train"? I'll try to answer this, but this might not the correct answer: Training Train: This train is operated by a Rail Operator in Training with a CTA Rail Supervisor overseeing his/her operations as they get practice running a non-revenue service train on one of the CTA's rail lines to familiarize the trainee with how the particular line functions most likely because the trainee will be assigned to that line. Rail Instruction Train: This is like a mobile classroom for the CTA. A CTA Supervisor is teaching a class of soon-to-be Rail Operators the day to day tasks and responsibilities of a CTA Rail Operator. The train is being operated by a veteran CTA Rail Operator while the Supervisor instructs the class and Operator and radios ahead to the towers as to what track(s) to put the train on as they go around the system. This may not be anywhere near exactly how these trains differ, but this is my understanding....

I witnessed both trains looking out the window at Chicago/Franklin.

garmon757
I noticed that 5559-60 are missing from the Red Line roster. That's leading to some of my posts aren't being noticed for some odd reason.
chgofan78
Looks like 5517-5518, 5519-5520, and 5521-5522 are the new cars permanently assigned to the Yellow Line.

garmon757
If they are, that must be nice for Skokie commuters to have the blue interior. That's not the first time because #5321-22 and #5439-40 were on the Yellow Line.

Any 5000 pair in Howard yard can be used on the Yellow line; everyday its a random bunch of them. Also, 2891-2892 have been used on the Yellow line recently as well. Chicagos_D
I saw 3181-3182 at Midway yard this morning, on track 3 I believe, mixed in with 2400s.
ChicagoNova
I saw 3181-3182 at Midway yard this morning, on track 3 I believe, mixed in with 2400s. I thought CTA retired the last of the 2400s.
chicagopcclcar
I thought CTA retired the last of the 2400s. "Rail Maintenance General Bulletin SUBJECT: Removal of 2400-series rail cars from service Effective after the AM rush period on October 31st, 2014, all remaining 2400-series rail cars will be removed from service and should not be used for passenger service thereafter. Bulletin RMGB 4-14 Effective: October 31, 2014 Copies to: Rail Maintenance and Rail Operations Supersedes: N/A" Just because you see cars in the yard doesn't mean they in passenger service. 2400 work motors are still used not not to carry passengers. Plus there might be one last farewell trip too.
BusHunter
I don't think it's happening this winter. BTW, how can we really say farewell to the cars if #2400 work cars are still present. In a way they are still here even though they're gone. chicagopcclcar
The work motors won't be used in passenger service. CTA has history in that practice. Cars were kept long after their passenger days were over.

Chicagos_D
2983-2984 is now on the Orange line. It was on run 716 this morning. Interior maps have been changed to Orange line.
chgofan78
2983-2984 is now on the Orange line. It was on run 716 this morning. Interior maps have been changed to Orange line. Last week, there were a few Blue Line 2600s sitting in Howard yard. It was only for the weekend, then they disappeared. I saw 2797-2798, 3119-3120, 3047-3048, 2653-2654, 3007-3008, and 2821-2822. I wonder if this is the start of the 2600-series retirements- or even Long-Term Holds.
