If Sims does the actual scrapping, what’s the function of the junkyard in Markham? Do they salvage parts there or is it just a temporary storage location used by the towing company?

my guess is once these 20 electric buses get delivered this year 6400’s are gone and then K and 74th will send FG flyers

also guess is 10 to C 10 to 74th

20 Proterras won't be nearly enough to bump off the rest of the 6400s. There's supposed to be a diesel order placed sometime later this year to replace the 6400s and the early Flyers. At least that's what I've heard.

flyers got at least 5-6 years left

Not necessarily. The earliest ones are more than twelve years old, meaning they can legally be retired (MCTS retired its 2006 D40LFs last summer). Sure, they're still in excellent condition, but it all depends on when CTA wants or is able to retire them. Let's not forget the oldest novas started retiring in 2014-15 when they were about the age the 1000s are now. But regardless, the last of the 6400s will still probably be around until 2021.

Why’s it so hard for CTA to retire the rest of the 6400s? There’s more than enough buses at each garage. If you go by a garage during peak times there are probably 10 buses that each garage can give up without messing with service. I went by forest glen during the morning rush and there were an awful lot of 7900s and 1000s just sitting at the garage. What would happen if CTA one morning went to forest glen and just got rid of every 6400 just like that and forest glen was just left with whatever 7900s and 1000s they have? I think forest glen can survive off whatever number of buses it has without 6400s.

It is not that simple.   Each garage has spares on hand to account for breakdowns. maintenance issues, and extra service such as emergency rail shuttles  or special events shuttles.   CTA has retired a significant number of 6400s already.  They need more buses to completely retire the 6400s.

That seems to be it's usual hangout. I spotted it twice there, once in late December (these photos and videos are the day after Christmas I think) and again in early January
